Seemed like the easiest way to word this. There are alot of other facts listed here about her:
Did Florence Nightingale die of syphilis?
No, she died of extreme old age at 90. There is no possibility at all that she had syphilis. Her life is extremely well-documented and the symptoms of syphilis are not compatible with what we know about her. But this rumour about syphilis is quite common. I have been told that it was publicised by a priest who was opposing a church proposal to commemmorate her. He said she was an atheist who died of syphilis, and this was widely published in the press and resulted in the proposal being dropped.
As for Peplau, she was also a very stong woman to teach other nurses to stand up for the patient, teaching the patient, etc. Who I would choose as a role model, personally I would have to still choose Nightingale just because she took the great leap in a world where women were not invited to be. She has definitely made a great impact on people around the world.

I think Peplau was "The Mother of Psychiatric Nursing." She worked on the development of psychotherapeutic nursing. That's a simplistice introduction to her work, really. Her research and theories have had an enormous impact on psychiatric nursing and care.
Lillian Wald founded the Henry Street Settlement in NYC, probably one of the first clinics/shelters in the country. Definitely she was one of the strongest and possible the very first public health nurse in the country.

We did not watch films or talk about any person except Nightingale. However now I am back in school for BSN and would like to know more about the thoughts of Henderson and how it applies to nursing today.
Also would like to know about Peplau
