A few things are discouraging me next year. I need some input. Next year, I'll be starting in Feb at DCTS LPN program, and I won't have access to a car MOST of the time. So google maps just told me my ride will possible take 1 hour, and 45 minutes!!! Now I am prepared to do what I have to do but is there anyone here who had to wake up at 4am just to get to school by 8am?? How hard was it for you? Did it delay your plans for nursing school?? By the way....just some other obstacles I face: Baby due on Jan 14, 2014. So yes, I'll have a newborn who will be just over 1 month old when I start but on a positive note, I have a great mom who will be helping me with the kids. Anyways, Is it possible? How hard was it for you? Just looking for some feedback, and trying not to let life discourage me.

THank you.

I know in my state, PA, they have verified carpool groups that might be able to get you to destination faster than a bus. That may be an option for you.

Are you refering to Delaware County Technical School? If so what part of town are you coming from?

Yes. I'm talking about that one. I am coming from Chester, pa. I'm hoping that there is an easier commute to get there! Just doing my homework. So I can mentally prepare for it.

Thanks. I will look into it!

Wow that is a long ride there arent any lpn programs closer to you? The only route I know is the 109 to 69th street and I think the 107 but, I dont think the 107 runs that often OR, take the 102 trolley from 69th st and idk which bus from there.

To answer your question, I knew a few people that had to wake up at 3 and 4 am to catch public transportation BUT, that was for clinicals only which was 2 days a week the 1st semester and 3 days our last semester. They said that it was a lot but not too bad. They also didnt have a newborn baby or had to do it everyday so it could be different for you.

Youre going to have a new born baby, have to wake up that early everyday and even earlier for clinical days? Do you know where your clinicals will be? Idk if they still do clinicals at Mercy Hospital of Philadelphia anymore.

I dont want you to get discouraged because you can do anything that you put your mind into. Just make sure that it wont be too much for you hun. If others can do it then so can you :)

Thank you. Clinicals! Yes, that's something to consider as well. I'm going to look into a little harder! thank you for the feedback.

Specializes in Pediatrics.

In my program, you aren't allowed in unless you have your own car (and they require a vehicle registration as proof). With clinicals starting at 0630, there was no way to take a bus or anything else. I did lose transportation for a couple weeks while my car was being repaired, but I arranged for rides with my awesome classmates (and I only lived a couple miles from school).
