here are some web links that might help you as you go through your chemistry class. i lived in fear of chemistry for a long time and left it as the last thing i had to take. i found that i actually liked it and that having learned more about how to be a better student at studying, i did very well with it. the trick to chemistry is to never fall behind with the lessons. like math, each subject builds upon the previous one. learn the elements that you are going to be working with most right off the bat. be able to know their shorthand abbreviation, their molecular number and valences by heart or you will have problems later on down the road in the course.

http://www.cs.ubc.ca/cgi-bin/nph-pertab/tab/periodic-table

http://periodic.lanl.gov/ - this site is very colorful!

http://www.webelements.com/

- the periodic table. click on any element to bring up a page with more specific information about it

http://www.wfu.edu/~ylwong/balanceeq/balanceq.html - simple interactive tutorial on balancing chemical equations with 10 additional practice exercises and step by step hints to help you out from wake forest university - you will have to download macromedia shockwave player to see the video (it's a free download) - there is also a game at this site to help learn the elements of the periodic table (see links on left side of page)

http://chemfinder.cambridgesoft.com/ - with this little chemical search engine you type the name of a chemical compound and click on "search" - it will bring up a very simple description of the compound, picture of the graphic representation of it, chemical formula, molecular weight, melting and boiling points, water solubility with many links to more information about each compound - you may have to register to use the site, but it is free

http://regentsprep.org/regents/chem/onlineresources/index.cfm - this is an online resource with many links to all kinds of help with chemical subjects on a website for preparing for the new york regent's exam in high school chemistry. within the links are explanations of the topics as well as some worksheets with answers, particularly in solving equations.

Me :roll

Daytonite, thank you so much for those links!!! I add Daytonite-links to my favorites list daily it seems. ~grins~ Awesome... bookmarking them all!

Oh... there's a repeat in the links, is the second periodic table link on the same site as the third link?

catsmeow. . oops! you're right about the duplication. i've corrected it. thanks. i often have 4 browers open at once and i sometimes get myself confused. what can i say? my mind is usually going a mile a minute. i'm sorry for the mistake.

why, thank you for the compliment! i guess you haven't read some of the edgier comments that i've made in the general nursing discussion forum. i have a little following of people that would probably kill me if they could recognize me on the street for some of the comments i've posted!

~grins~ good thing it's a anon forum then. lol. nah, i've found all your posts most enlightening and helpful! thanks for fixing, adding that link too. :)

I just finished my chemistry class. Lab was great but lecture was one of the worst schooling experiences ever. First off...don't take the class online (if that is in option). I had a terrible instructor and am very happy that it was not my first semester returning to school or I may have backed out of the whole schooling thing. Now it is over and time to move on...thank you Jesus!!

My Chem class starts Sept. 5. I am trying to get myself familiar with the terminology before the class starts so I will have a starting point. My class is online but I go to school for the lab once a week.

Last quarter I took Biology as a DVD course with lab once a month. That was awful! Hopefully the online class will be better than the DVDs.

Good luck (to all of us)
