Well, it helped having experience in the hospital...and it helped being a CNA before that. It's very useful in giving you insight into different roles.
I was an LPN for 26 years before I got my RN. I went through Regents which is now call Excelsior. It was a great program for me but it's not for everyone. You have to be pretty self-disciplined.
I went from LVN to RN at the same hospital where I've always worked. I think it helps from the stand point of understanding different roles of different levels. I also think that it really helped in my skill and confidence level.
