OK I will grab that book because one way or another I will be in that area Im sure to shop.
My company has to cover my security, because Im diplomatic (yadda yadda yadda) so its part of my contract and its something they have done for me for the 3 yrs I have worked for them. I so far havent had a problem with it.
My housing is covered by my company, I guess Im fortunate, I always get a coporate apartment , all I show up with is my suite case and golf clubs and I go to work.
Any particular area that I should look into , it sounds as if you know that area well and Im clueless about it.
If you are assigned to Kaiser Sunset it's right off the 101 Freeway so the Valley area would be a good bet...Toluca Lake area is OK (north of the hospital) as is the Hollywood Hills area. You might want to go to http://www.rentals.com and enter in zip code 90027 (that's the hospital)...you could get a better idea of housing that way. I've lived here for over 10 years and hate to commute and hate the freeways even more...but if you don't mind driving with a bunch of nuts on the road then you could live almost anywhere. Santa Monica is nice (and very expensive) as is West LA, Marina Del Rey and Brentwood...but no direct freeways to Kaiser-Sunset from these areas. (They are all west of Kaiser-Sunset and closer to the ocean).
The commute difficulties could also vary depending on the shift you will be working. Kaiser Sunset is pretty much central in the huge L.A. commuting area, but will be a little better if you're not working 8 hour day shifts. The 210 freeway opens up some areas to the east for housing, but it's a good idea to avoid the heavier commute times. Glendale might be a possibility, too, with some good areas. Pomona has some very nice gated housing neighborhoods, if you're willing to make the drive. I used to live in the south bay area, and know of a lot of nice and safe housing in Manhattan Beach, Hermosa, Redondo, and Torrance. However freeway access is not good for those cities. Westchester and Playa del Rey are good areas, but get a lot of noise from LAX. Sending you a pm, also.
Some of my patients get part of their treatment at Kaiser Sunset. They always come back with good comments about the place. It's a huge facility, but has a pretty good reputation.
If you want to see what the area looks like, go to mapquest.com, and put in the address 4867 Sunset Blvd., Los Feliz, CA 90027. When the map comes up, click on "aerial photograph" and take a tour.
