hey all. just wondering if it is legal to call yourself "graduate nurse" or "graduate practical nurse" if you have infact graduated from nursing school but you are not working on a limited permit but you aren't performing skills that only a licensed nurse can do so you are not stepping out of the scope of practice of an unlicensed individual.

A graduate nurse (RN) is a nurse who has graduated, but is not yet licensed. A graduate practical nurse is an LPN who has graduated but is not yet licensed.

A graduate nurse is not really a title, it's just a name given to people who are in the interum between nursing graduation and licensure. There are no legalities associated with the term. Whether you can practice as a graduate nurse depends on the facility where you are working. Some facilities allow graduate nurses to practice, and the hospital is liable for their actions. Some facilities do not allow nurses to perform patient care until they become licensed.
