  1. i just started a new job. the problem is i walked in as a brand new lpn and am still trying to figure out how to deal with this situation. now before i go any further i just want to say that i am in no way shape or form trying to put anyone down. so here it is..... where i am working the offices are staffed by mostly lpn's medical assistants and techs. there are very few rn's. anyways, before i was an lpn i went to school to be an ma and didn't like it so i went for nursing after. so i know exactly what the scope of practice of both roles are. i have 3 ma's that i work with but i am supposed to be making the one doing the nursing portions of the job. the ma's have completely shown no respect for me. with that being said i am a firm believer in that respect isn't something automatic. you have to give it to recieve it. so i have been very kind and have tried so hard to just tolerate the way that they treat me. they are giving out advice left and right and trying to run the show meanwhile they have no idea what they are talking about. how do i go about turning this situation around?? i don't want drama that is for sure! but i want to be respected. i just feel like they are working out of their scope of practice and trying to take over. help!!!
  2. i took my nclex exam today. the computer shut off at 85 questions and i started to cry. i didn't feel confident at all. i actually went and sat in the car and cried for a good ten minutes then drove home. i only told a few people that i was taking it today. so i went home and tried the pearsonvue trick or whatever it is called and i got the message that said "our records indicate that you have recently scheduled this exam. please contact your board member for further assistance. another registration cannot be made @ this time". is this the good pop up?!?!!? i have done it about 30 times! and am still getting the same thing. if this is the good pop up is it safe to say i have passed?? or should i still be worried?? thanks a bunchhhhh!!!!!
  3. hey all. just wondering if it is legal to call yourself "graduate nurse" or "graduate practical nurse" if you have infact graduated from nursing school but you are not working on a limited permit but you aren't performing skills that only a licensed nurse can do so you are not stepping out of the scope of practice of an unlicensed individual.
  4. hellooooo fellow lpn/lvn students!!!! hope everyone is doing amazing!! quick question tho, when are you planning to apply for jobs?? i graduate in less than 2 months and would like to have some interviews lined up!!!:yeah:but then i thought maybe i was getting ahead of myself?!?!?! i would like to be out networking and hopefully secure a job before i graduate! so when is the ideal time to start applying?!!?!?!?!?!??! tia!!!!
  5. thank you both very much for sharing! i really appreciate it! i know i have a lot of work ahead of me but i really want to be a nicu nurse. i just feel it in my heart. i can't explain it. i would love to be the nurse that puts bows in baby doe's hair and makes sure that baby boy doe has his special stuffed animal with him while their parents have to leave their babies in the nicu while they run home or return to work or whatever the case may be. i know how critical accurate critical thinking is and i know i have a lot more to learn but really really really want to do this!! again thank you very much!!!!!!!!!!
  6. hello nicu nurses!!!! i am due to graduate (lpn/lvn) in july. i plan to continue on to become an rn because i really really really want to work l&d or in the nicu and all the area hospitals around me require at least rn (adn) to work on either unit. the question i have tho is i can be an emotional person sometimes like cry at sad movies etc. not overly emotional but i do cry from time to time. in the event of an emergency i am always centered and level headed but afterwards i usually cry. i can seperate my own feelings from an emergency and don't let my emotions take over. it was always been my dream to work l&d or in the nicu. so i am wondering, if i were to get a position in the nicu after i have completed rn school would i be fired if i cried after a baby passed away? or would i be fired if i cried infront of parents? i mean obviously i would try to keep it in and it would not be about me being sad at that time. for example if a baby was being resuscitate and we were doing all we could and lost them i am afraid i may cry after. i see how much of an impact the nicu nurses have on family & patients and want to be a part of that. so how do you avoid crying?? thank you so much!! any advice is appreciated!!!!! i also did just want to say what you guys/girls do is amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  7. i know this might not be what you would like to do but you could look into tranfering to a community college associates degree program. i am guessing you would only be there for a semester since certain classes have to come from them! but you would be able to graduate and work as an rn and finish up your bsn at the same time! it's worth looking into so you don't lose everything you have worked so hard for! good luck!!!
  8. hello lpn/lvn students!!!!! i am graduating from my lpn program this summer!!!:yeah:but everytime someone asks me what i am up to and i say that i am in an lpn program their response 9/10 is "ohh are you going on for your rn?" ughh!! it drives me nuts! i really have enjoyed this! and it just so happens yes in the future i plan on going the rn route as i want to work in the nicu and they only hire rn's here. but really?!?!? why?!?! it is so irritating sometimes! if i never advance on to my rn i will be completely happy!!!!!!! i have wanted to be a nurse since i was a little girl and am 2 months away from reaching the biggest goal i have ever set and it will be the happiest day of my life! aside from my wedding and the birth of our daughter! the lpn program is hard!!! and i feel like we don't get enough credit sometimes!!!!

okay-i have to say i totally disagree with some of the previous posts about cma being the same thing as an lpn/lvn. i have an associates degree in medical assisting and am due to graduate from my lpn program this summer. i am not just saying this because i am almost finished with the lpn program but there is a huge difference here in nys. medical assistants can't administer medications triage assess position pts and the list keeps going on. yes, if you enroll in an associates degree program for medical assisting you go to school for 2 years which was longer than my lpn program. but to say an ma is more educated is just not true. in an lpn program you are there all day doing nothing but nursing. day in and day out-nursing. but an associates degree medical assisting program has a bunch of classes that don't even apply to being a medical assistant. fact of the matter is that anyone here in my state can apply for a medical assistant job. there are no educational requirements. you don't have to have a certificate of completion or an associates degree. to be a nurse you must have passed the nclex. i am not saying all of this to put anyone down in any way shape or form. it is just the truth. and someone mentioned that you had to take the cma or rma exam to work as an ma. here that is just not true. i only enrolled in the medical assisting program because i didn't do my research and was fooled by what they said. on a daily basis we were told ma is the same thing as lpn. i got out there and started working and realized real fast how that wasn't true. the school is constantly calling their ma program a "nursing" program which to me should be illegal since it is illegal to call oneself a nurse in my state if infact you are not an lpn rn or np. if you want to be a nurse then you have to go to nursing school. period. i learned the hard way! from an academic standpoint the ma program did help me because i knew some of the med term and a little a&p. it wasn't a total waste and to say ma programs are a waste isn't true either. some people want to be an ma and do a great job @ it. i just wanted to be a nurse! so i went to nursing school. the reason some people go through an lpn program before rn is because we have other issues that need to be taken care of like children family etc. the rn programs here are very very very very competitive and honestly i wasn't ready to apply. now going the lpn route i will be able to work and have more points to get into an rn program. i think that everyone deserves credit for what they do. regardless of your title. people shouldn't be so quick to judge!!!!!!!!!!!
  10. How much does excelsior cost? I have heard around 10k but then I hear it's more like 30k. Huge difference! lolll So I am curious as to how much it really costs!
  11. If nursing is what you really want 2 do why don't u do an lpn program? You will be well prepared for it. You could take the course and they are usually 10 months to 18 months. That way your doing nursing still. Then when you are done you can do an lpn to rn bridge program and you can work as an lpn while you are working on your rn! Good luck!
  12. Sounds good but u should add increased risk for infection bc if she has decreased skin integrity her integumentary system aka skin is going to compromise her health bc the skin is the first line off defense against infection.
  13. i am sorry 2 hear that. what i would do if i were you is i would apply to a 2 year program. i have a feeling a lot of your courses will transfer over. then when you are done with your 2 year program you will be able to take the nclex exam. you could work for a little while and build up your knowledge base and then apply to a rn-bsn bridge program. you may have had to end your current program but you are not a failure. a failure is someone who gives up on their dreams. don't give up on your dream! anything meaningful is worth fighting for! so be sad for a couple days dust yourself off and get back out there and find another route! the end result isn't going to change for you! you just have to find a different way to get there! you can do it!!!!!!!!!! good luck!!!!
  14. thank you very much for your reply!!! i really appreciate it! i have been heavily researching the schools in my area and i have a general idea who looks at strictly gpa and who doesn't! so hopefully i can get into a good program! i am just so nervous!!!! thank you for your support!!!
  15. Hey all! I just have a quick question. I attended a private college and graduated with an aas degree in medical assisting. My goa isn't. So great. It's only a 2.8. I am also an LPN/LVN student. My gpa there is about a 3.3. I have really bad test anxiety so i don't tewell. I don't. Feel as though my gpa is an accurate way to determine if i would be successful in an RN program. I am proud to be a b student because i work hard to earn it. I realize that the rn programs are competitive and obviously i realize i won't ever get into a big university. So do you think that i stand a chance in getting into an adn program?? I just know i could get through the program. I love nursing! Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
