Which rpn college has a better program?

World Canada CA Programs

Published

So I just applied to the rpn program at Centennial college and George Brown college for the janruary 2011 intake (toronto canada)... I recently just got accepted to centennial, and im still waiting from george brown(they said they will start giving out offers in September)... But i don't know what school to go to... I heard SOME ups and downs about centennial.. mostly downs about their useless faculty, if anyone has heard or experienced the program at centennial, please let me know?!?!

I also heard a lot of pros about george brown college.. but just in case i don't get in and centennial is my last and only option, i want to know ahead and be prepared for what's to come...

so if anyone has any advice or input or anything about these schools please let me know!!!

THANKS!!:):)

I notice that when students do well they credit their own hard work and effort. When they do poorly they immediately blame the school and the teachers.Whining that the teachers want them to fail makes no sense and shows a lack of maturity.

If you're implying that I'm whining because I'm doing poorly at GBC I'm afraid I'm going to have to correct that assumption. My grades are above average. I worked very hard. I wouldn't have made it to the end if I wasn't capable. I'm not saying all teachers at GBC are inept or that all want to see their students fail, but some really don't seem to care. But you have your opinions and I have mine. And good marks don't mean students don't gripe. I know a few students who are on the honour roll and have a lot of issues with the school. But if your daughter likes the school, good for her. I'd be very interested to have you up date your post with her opinions as the semester continues.

Thank you for your opinion. How is your daughter liking the workload/courses she has for this semester? Have she started clinical placement yet, it starts 2nd semester?

Wow, thank you for the in depth information and honest opinions about the courses. I guess colleges just like to add and swap/change courses around as years progress, etc. But if you didn't tell me the critical enquiry course was an APA course, I wouldn't have known so.

Yes, I heard about Centennial is more about sticking the core information as the courses are so too as someone posted here well before I asked (but that was 3 years ago already). But then a lot of people do complain about Centennial's teachers, staff and administration, but I guess it really depends on who you have as a teacher or who is there while you ask. From reviews, Humber is always the one with the highest student satisfaction, it's nice to hear that your friend is enjoying it at Humber and Centennial. Wow, that's pretty harsh to say in the first place and I agree it is very discouraging as people do lose confidence at that point.

If you don't mind me asking, what drew you George Brown for practical nursing rather than other colleges when you applied (b/c of the reviews, students, commute)? Yes, commuting can be a hassle and waste of time, but I guess it is best for me to live near campus once I decide which college to attend (either it's Seneca, GBC or Centennial).

I understand this is your opinion (as I have asked from you) and I appreciate your honest opinion about your experience. I will keep it in mind since I just don't want to make the wrong decision and then end up transferring after a semester or something. Thank you, I will definitely find a Tuesday and go down and see, I haven't seen the campus myself neither. So I guess during that time, it's the best opportunity to ask around.

I picked GBC because online I read that it was a good school. And I must admit I fell for their ads about their graduates finding a high level of employment. It was also the closest school to me. I really do believe that it's a bad choice to come to GBC. But opinions differ I'm sure. Just not in anyone that I know. But ask around. The best people to ask are nurses who are working now that went through the program recently. I will absolutely admit that I lack prescriptive because I'm in the program and see the things I see and experience the things I do. The one nice thing I can say is that it's a very nice modern building.

I'm so sorry. That's not what I meant at all.I was referring to people who do poorly and then blame the school, I wasn't saying you were doing poorly.

George Brown College's Nursing programs have moved to the waterfront campus. They have a great simulation lab on the 4th floor where you can take the vital signs of the mannequins. They do high fidelity there as well, where you go into a scenario and in the other room you are video taped where you are able to watch yourself in action when you are done. It's a great way to see what you have done and it makes you a lot more aware of habits that you need to change or things you may want to implement. It's a great self-reflection tool! It terms of learning, the faculty are very helpful and if you show you are committed, they will help you along the way if you are having difficulties with anything. The course load if heavy, yes, but you feel like you have a wealth of knowledge by the time you are done! I highly recommended this college. I would say that all of their nursing programs including the psw and pathway up to rpn and bscn are well designed!

hello, all.

I just graduated from Centennial College Practical Nursing Program this June. The program is hard and many of my classmates quit. However, if you trust yourself and try your best, you will make it finally :) I passed the exam on May and all of my friends did pass it as well.

Hi! i will be attending the Flex RPn Program at Centennial, Can you tell me how was the programs and any advice to do well.

Hi, I got into the centennial flex program too ☺️I read that we will be taking fewer courses per semester but will be in school throughout summer as well.....

Yup the flex has low course load rather than the normal rpn one at Centennial. Where r you commuting from, im commuting from Brampton

I currently reside in Scarborough í ½í¸Š was that the only school/program you applied to?

Hi!I actually applied to humber, gbc, and seneca. The only reason I want to go to Centennial is because of the Flex program.

Hello everyone!

I just finished reading all of the useful posts that everyone has submitted.

I applied for RPN programs at Centennial - Reg & Flex (Jan 2017), GBC (Jan 2017), Humber (Sept 2016), and Seneca (Jan 2017).

Right now I'm leaning towards l'm Centennial Flex, because of how flexible (literally) the course outline is for the semesters, everything we don't have a real summer (only two weeks between each semester).

I have received a lot of good information from my friend (who is in the program) but would like to hear from has many people has possible, about their experiences as well.

Information about any of the other school would be helpful too!

Thanks alot
