U.S.A. Washington

I am planning go to nursing school next year, do you know which RN program is good? Beside UW, I am thinking to go to BCC, does any one of you went / are going there? I heard that Shoreline has the best RN program amoung community college, so just want to see what is your opinion.

Thanks!

I graduated from Tacoma CC, and though I feel like I got a good education, they were very selective of who they supported and who they didn't. It was run very unprofessionally in my opinion, and several people from my class wrote very terse letters to the administration about it. However, we did have 100% pass the NCLEX, but it was not the uplifting, supportive environment I was seeking.

I just graduate from the Intercollegiate College of Nursing in Spokane. It is by far one of the best schools around. If anything, pick a BSN program and go to school for an extra year rather then going part way with an ADN program. It seems to me that most ADN's want to get their BSN but they end up never doing it due to familial obligations and such.

I graduated from Clark College (in '90).

The CC program links directly to the WSU BSN program so is pretty handy for those inclined to go for the advance degree (I don't happen to be one of those who feels the urge).

I went to the ICNE, which I would say is good as far as nursing education goes. It did seem like we spent a lot of time on BS stuff like nursing dx, care plans, etc. In our site (Yakima) I felt the clinical education was lacking, but that is probably related to the small size of the town. Fortunately for me I was able to enter a 3 month residency that sufficed for the lack of experience that I got in school. Also, we allegedly have the highest pass rate in the state on the NCLEX, but this is probably related to the style of testing the have in the program.

I went to Seattle U. Great program, and lots of different places to do clinicals. I would also recommend going to get your BSN if you can. Like Nadia562002 said most ADN's want to get their BSN at some time.

Good luck with finding a nursing school.

nadia562002, do you know the average GPA of incoming students to the ICN in Spokane? That is the school I am interested in, the advisor told me that anything above a 3.0 was considered competitive, but I want to know what people really have to have to be able to get in. Thanks!

schooling girl,

Shoreline CC does have an awesome reputation and I graduated from their program in June. It is very challenging but the students that graduate are pretty darn good.

Bellevue CC also has a good reputation and their nursing program is respected in the community.

The UW nursing program can be difficult to get into but it is THE best nursing school west of the Mississippi if not all the states. Good luck!

Thanks for all the suggestions. I am still studying the pre-req, I think I will consider Shoreline CC since that is the only college takes students to their program every quarter.

Thanks!

A great place to get your RN (ADN ) is at Lower Columbia College. I went there and I thought it was great!! All the teachers there work with you and really want each student to succeed!

also, Lower Columbia College takes students every quarter, so you can start anytime, and if something unforseen happens in the middle of the school year, you can take a quarter off and start right back where you left off!

I am currently attending Clark College (Vancouver, WA) and am finding it incredibly challenging. I have heared it is a very respected nursing program throughout the US, but it sounds as if all of the colleges in Washington are, from this post. Our program is nationally accredited, has 100% NCLEX pass rate and is not easy to get into, so I would be inclined to agree that it is a good college to get an ADN from. I hear there are hundreds of qualified candidates waiting to get into our program that only takes 96 students per year (32/quarter). I feel very lucky I got in when I did. I got in the next quarter after I finished my prereq's. It sounds like you are up north, but for the Portland/Metro area, this is a very respected, sought after and competetive nursing school.
