Which order should I take my science classes?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hi guys,

There are 4 science pre reqs that I need to take in order to apply for the nursing program:

Anatomy, Physiology, Microbiology, and Chemistry

Which order do you recommend taking these classes in? Also, is it a good idea to take two at a time, and if so, which two? Thanks!

I agree with the people who say to only take one science class at a time to maximize your chances of success unless you really need to get through as fast as possible.

Chemistry first is ideal. A decent understanding of basic chemistry will help you in the other classes.

Taking Micro at any point after taking Chemistry should be fine.

Anatomy and Physiology... Anatomy is usually recommended first, but I was very happy I took Physiology first - I did much better in physio and I think I would have gotten a worse grade in Anatomy and gotten totally discouraged with this path if I'd done Anatomy first. But that's personal preference. Plenty of people do better in Anatomy than Physio.

I would only take Anatomy and Physiology at the same time if the teachers make an effort to synchronize their subjects (so you're studying the same body system at the same time in each class) or if you're really in a hurry to get through as fast as possible.

I would take them one at a time and do chemistry, A&P's, and then Micro. Chemistry stuff is really touched on a lot in the later ones so starting with that will cause less confusion and problems. Of course, that's just my thoughts on it and me wishing that I had not forgotten the chemistry I took years ago before coming back to school and doing A&P and Micro. Remembering Krebs Cycle and so many other chemistry basics made some sections of each class a pain in my butt.
