The drug of choice for sedating the agitated patient suffering from cocaine poisoning is:
A. Cogentin
B. Haldol
C. Librium
D. Valium
I know it's a benzo, but aren't Librium and Valium benzos? So which one?

Howdy yall

Mostly likely none of the above. Librium isnt effective enough and has other issues asociated with it, Valium isnt long enough acting.
Most commonly we see Ativan used for it. Works quickly and has a longer period of action. Now if they are really psychotic, then they throw in some haldol.
My favorite is haldol 5 and ativan 2, IV preferrably. but will settle for IM.
doo wah ditty
Ah! "None of the above" was a choice! However, I am a fan of Ativan/Haldol, myself :)
Er, "None of the above" was NOT a choice.

Well I found somewhere that...........
Intravenous DIAZEPAM (Adults: 5 to 10 milligrams every 5 to 10 minutes as needed; Child: 0.1 to 0.2 milligram/kilogram every 5 to 10 minutes as needed) may be helpful (Anon, 1984). Large doses may be necessary in severe cases. Monitor for respiratory depression and need for endotracheal intubation.
But I have seen more Haldol and Ativan used in my experiences.
Ya know... Vitamin A deficiency!

Haldol 5mg/Ativan 2mg is quick and effective, I hate giving Ativan IM cause it HURTS but sometimes you do what ya gotta do.

Not sure of the answer to the question...
We had a guy come in the the ER the other night who developed CP after smoking crack-cocaine...he's been a user for about 20 years, and says that "this happens every time I smoke rock."
Go figure...
Anyway...he says he also called the ambulance because he thought he was going to have a seizure, and that he's been off his Depakote since August, because he ran out of money.
Asked him if he could tell when he was going to have a seizure...he said sometimes...
He got a funny look on his face, then proceeded to seize.
Ativan 2mg IV cured him (for now!)

Yes, ativan and haldol IVP.
Or as I call it, "Vitamin AH"
AH is obviously for ativan/haldol but also for the sound the staff makes when te patient finally settles down.
