Which Nutrution class to take?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

I plan to apply to a number of different programs (one accelerated BSN and two ADN) and am a little uncertain which Nutrition class to take. There seem to be three different ones listed as prerequisites - and after calling each program, I've been told that they all are "equivalent". So, I just need to choose one. Each is being taught on-line and the respective professors are fairly evenly rated on ratemyprofessor.com. I don't know how to make the choice between the three. Maybe you can help me?

option a) DIE2201 - "Nutrition and Diet Therapy: This course is an introductory course in the scienc eof nutrition and principles of diet therapy. Fundamental principles of nutrition are studied and application of these principles to diet planning si covered". Listed as pre-req for IRSC ADN .

option b) HUN1201 - "Essentials of Nutrition: This is an introductory course of the scientific principles of nutrition; covering the role of specific nutrients, their digestion, absorption, and metabolism, sources of the nutrients, and requirements of the various age groups." Listed as a pre-requ for BCC ADN.

option c) HUN3011 - "Human Nutrition: Essentials of nutrition related to the life cycle, including the physiological, psychosocial, and cultural aspects of nutrition and the inter-relationship with disease are emphasized." Listed as pre-req for UCF BSN.

What do you think? Since I'm still working on improving a less than stellar prior engineering GPA, I want to take the one that will likely be the easiest. Not that I mind working hard - but I've worked my butt off to get a 4.0 in all the other pre-req classes over the past couple years. Don't want to blow it on this final course! Thanks for any thoughts! This is a great site - full of really helpful info. I've enjoyed reading lots of posts - and had several other questions already answered by doing a bit of searching on the forum!

if theyre all equivalent, i'd go with the one that interests me the most, which are A and B. i bet theyre all "easy" tho.

A seems practical like something i could put to use, hence making it easier to relate to. the nutr class i took was like this one.

B sounds interesting too but if i were worried about grades this would worry me the most. most technical of the bunch.

C sounds like the kind of fluff that annoys me to no end. anytime i see the word "psychosocial" my natural reflex is to roll my eyes. but but also seems most relevant for what ive seen in nsg school so far.

I'm kind of in the same boat as you because there are a few different nutrition classes that they offer at the college i will be attending for prereqs. They offer nutrition and then advanced nutrition.

My first impression was to sign up for the class that seems the most relevant SCIENCE-wise (thus, not the 3rd one probably), with that said, I understand your concern in wanting to not take the one that is the hardest if it's not necessary.

I think the BEST bet would be to ask your counselor or adviser and let them know that this is for prereqs towards nursing school. I'm sure they'll have better knowledge of which is more geared towards science/medical-related majors. I think that's the safest way to go.

hope this helps =/

I am also looking for a science-oriented online nutrition class for nursing school. Can you tell me which college is offer the ones you listed? Thanks

If all three nutrition courses are deemed "equivalent", I would personally choose option c (HUN3011 - "Human Nutrition:). I've heard from other students that nutrition classes can be pretty boring (I don't take nutrition until next year). That being said, I would prefer a nutrition class that focuses not only on the body/ physiology, but also cultural ideas of nutrition (so the class is not so science based). Of the three classes, option c seems like the most interesting to me.

Option B sounds like what I am currently enrolled in as a telecourse. It is not too bad so far.
