anyone in the Brevard CC ADN program?
Why is this such an elusive question? I just can't fathom why no-one at the school can give me this answer except the single point of contact (who is out on jury duty). Are nursing programs unpredictable and set schedules not typical? I thought BCC had a fairly established program....

anyone in the Brevard CC ADN program?
I posted this same question on another area and didn't get any responses - hope there's a BCC student here who can answer my question!!! I just received my acceptance letter for the Aug 2009 class. But, I can't find the class schedule. I received my letter on Thursday; campus closed Fri-Sun; anxiously called the campus today and was told that the person who can tell me this info is on jury duty. All I could find is the classes are M-Th (scheduled anywhere between 7:30a and 4:00p) with a 12 hr clinical on Friday. I need a more definitive estimation of the time. Can anyone tell me what times you have class M-Th? Since I applied to the program, my mother's medical condition has unexpectedly declined (dementia & uncontrolled diabetes). I am trying to figure out what I need to do to ensure she is cared for while I am in class. Time of classes has a lot to do with this (i.e. how much home health care I'll need to provide for her insulin, et.al). Thanks for any help you can provide. Otherwise, I'm just sitting here biting my nails and being useless until the person from BCC is available. Laura

I don't get it --- NLN content
I just picked up a study packet from IRSC for the NLN. The packet includes sheets for thermodynamics, electricity, kinetics, organic chem., etc. I am just flabbergasted. I have a BS in mechanical engineering and can't imagine why the NLN would have these advanced concepts for entry into a nursing program...... especially when the programs don't even require higher level science classes as prerequisites. It's been a lot of years since I finished my BS-ME, and will really have to study to fish these science concepts out of muddy waters. So, just curious - anyone understand why thermodynamics (et al) is being used to score entry to nursing??? I just can't make sense of it....

Nursing process
I also have a low GPA due to prior coursework. When I graduated with my Mech Engineering degree, I was just squeeking by - as I too had little interest in the BS-ME - and ended up with something like a 2.4 cumulative GPA. Now, after 5 yrs of prereq rework, I've brought that up to a 2.8. Gads --- it takes A LOT of work to raise a GPA when you have almost 200 hrs! I just attended the IRSC ADN info session last week and was thrilled to hear that they too use a point system that focuses on the grades you have on your PREREQUISITES! Cool:yeah: I have managed to get all A's since returning to school --- some 20 yrs later!!!

requirements for transport/flight nurse
I am preparing to apply to nursing school now and, upon discussion with a friend, made the comment that I am applying to both BS and AS degreed programs - because it seems the type of degree has little influence on (initial) job function, title, duties, pay, etc. My friend stated that she has a close friend who is a traveling RN. Suposedly this person said that you must have a BSN to be a transport or flight nurse. I have never seen this addressed in the AS vs BS discussions here - or anywhere! Do you know if this is true (i.e. must possess a bachelors degree to purse transport/flight nursing)? Thanks for any clarification you can provide me!

Which Nutrution class to take?
I plan to apply to a number of different programs (one accelerated BSN and two ADN) and am a little uncertain which Nutrition class to take. There seem to be three different ones listed as prerequisites - and after calling each program, I've been told that they all are "equivalent". So, I just need to choose one. Each is being taught on-line and the respective professors are fairly evenly rated on ratemyprofessor.com. I don't know how to make the choice between the three. Maybe you can help me? option a) DIE2201 - "Nutrition and Diet Therapy: This course is an introductory course in the scienc eof nutrition and principles of diet therapy. Fundamental principles of nutrition are studied and application of these principles to diet planning si covered". Listed as pre-req for IRSC ADN . option b) HUN1201 - "Essentials of Nutrition: This is an introductory course of the scientific principles of nutrition; covering the role of specific nutrients, their digestion, absorption, and metabolism, sources of the nutrients, and requirements of the various age groups." Listed as a pre-requ for BCC ADN. option c) HUN3011 - "Human Nutrition: Essentials of nutrition related to the life cycle, including the physiological, psychosocial, and cultural aspects of nutrition and the inter-relationship with disease are emphasized." Listed as pre-req for UCF BSN. What do you think? Since I'm still working on improving a less than stellar prior engineering GPA, I want to take the one that will likely be the easiest. Not that I mind working hard - but I've worked my butt off to get a 4.0 in all the other pre-req classes over the past couple years. Don't want to blow it on this final course! Thanks for any thoughts! This is a great site - full of really helpful info. I've enjoyed reading lots of posts - and had several other questions already answered by doing a bit of searching on the forum!
