Which NP Track? FNP or Psych

Published

I am thinking of going to NP school and am torn between doing FNP with a Mental health cert added on, or Psyche with FNP add on if thats possible? Bottom line is Im not certain which I want to do........perhaps both. I've read of at least one person who splits hours between both. But is that really difficult to keep up CMEs? Im worried about making a mistake about picking the wrong one to focus on. My background is ER / ICU/ Critical care, although Im now in Psyche to see if I like that. Overall I am leaning towards Psych NP. Anyone have thoughts? Also any recommendations on schools? Thanks!

Good afternoon. Your thread was moved to our Nurse Practitioners forum so our APRNs can provide their feedback on which route you should take. Good luck.

Hi Felix,

I think some good starting groud before you make any decisions might be to shadow each type of NP. This might give you more insight into the jobs you seek and hopefully guide you toward the path that suits you more.

Schools are another thing, there are tons of threads on here regarding that topic.

Bottom line is you have to do what is right for you. Hopefully shadowing a day or two can provide some information in your decision.

Good luck!
