Which field to go into?

Published

Hi there, and waves to all.

I am just researching into nursing as a career and was looking into the different types of nursing. Does anyone know a good place that has more details information into the job details of the different types of nursing?

Actually a better question would be..why do you wish to go into healthcare and what aspect of healthcare do you like! There isn't just nursing....and so many other areas are wonderful!

If you simply go on here and see the nursing specialty section you can see the wide variety of areas in nursing, and post questions specific to those aspects! That is a cool feature in here!

Don't forget that nursing, although very vast, isn't the only area of healthcare to look into! Ultrasound, MRI, ED tech, clerk, MD, respiratory tech, physician assistant, Medical Aide, CNA, LPN, lab tech, Paramedic/EMT, medical/legal, forensics and crime investigation.......the list goes on!

thanks hun. Two major reasons I want to get into nursing. One being I am a single mom of 3 and need a career that is stable and pays enough to support above and beyond. Two being I need to feel good about what it is I am doing. I enjoy helping people but the thing is I dont know in what way. So I figured ahhhh nursing lol. But like you said there are so many options how do you know wich way is the right way to go? Figured I would try to do some research into it. I deffinatly know I do not want to do peds. I would look at every child thinking there mine and panic I think. Any suggestions?

I was a single mom of one and wanted a career and got a grant for nursing. I took it duh! LOL!

There are awesome aspects of nursing...but also bummers like in any field! Sadly, I think my biggest pet peave is having a profession, and feeling like I am not respected for being a professional by patients and staff alike. Once I got into it...all that "I want to help" quickly turned to "well, okay now what did I really want to help with???" LOL!

I think for me it was emergency situations, but getting into a decent managed ED isn't possible for me where I live...LOL. So I do general medical surgical agency now..and feel good. But day after day of patients/families/staff yelling at me when I am doing my best does rank on the old nerves making me kinda unsympathetic when I get home..LOL, best to know the truth here! But some days I make a difference so well that I feel it, get thanked for it..and feel absolutely glowing! SO it evens out, but sometimes in the ruts between you do feel very overworked and underappreciated.

Think hard about the question of HOW do you wish to help? Do your desires focus on medical, social, emotional, money wise, and so on. Nursing touches all but can't hit one more than others....so if one hits you more...best to look focused on that also!

I wish you the best in your research on finding a career! Nursing is a good one, but best to know there are good days and bad..both as equally stressful and emotional. But hey, I don't complain that much...I got the grant, did it, did it well..still do it great..and am keeping with it! :)

BTW..I also don't do peds! OH no I am a cry baby with them..not too useful! LOL!!!!!!! I stick with adults or older folks! I may get a few younger teens now and again..but no babies...oh man no babies! I would cry my whole shift!

thanks alot :) that really puts things into place for me. I guess there is good and bad with everything reguardless. Is there such thing as a occupational nurse? or that is only for doctor's? I would love to help with somthing like that.

There are occupational nurses yep! My hubby (paramedic) wound up doing some work as one when one went to have her baby..he loved it!!!!!! I came in to watch (I was a student) and also liked it!

Check in to that..that is a fun one!

I think that is the way to go for me :) I will deffinatly look more into that. Cant wait to start school I am so excited !!! so many things to learn and do I know it sounds goofy but I am 28 years old and its about time I started somthing that has my heart going.
