Which agency to choose! ED RN HELP

Published

Im an ED RN looking into travel nursing agencies. They all sound so great. Anyone like to share personal experiences of whos the best to choose? I'd like to compare ideas and experiences. I'm from new york city looking to goto california and australia as of now.

Specializes in ER, ICU, Neuro, Ortho, Med/Surg, Travele.

I have worked with 2. RNNetwork, which missed up a contract and then tried to stick me with it and NHS. NHS, so far has been really great so far. All of us have good and bad stories. Take your time, make a list of questions and don't let them push you around.

PPR Healthcare, Mandy Maloney...cant say enough!! Prior to them i was with Access.....never goin there again....

I agree...PPR is wonderful. I talked to Preferred which is a division of American Mobile and they were awful just to talk to. I can't imagine if I would have taken a contract with them. PPR has gone above and beyond for me. Good luck.

For California, look into Agostini (nursesonthego). After seaching through at least 8 companies, Agostini paid the best....and when they say "fully furnished housing", they mean exactly that. Other companies don't usually supply bedding, towels, pots & pans, televisions, etc. Agostini is California based. I traveled with them and had no complaints. After traveling with other companies I have to say they were the best.

Agostini is getting some very bad reviews on a popular travel nurse forum right now (delphi). Seems like quite a few travelers aren't saying as good things about them as you.

To the OP: Now is not the time to think about starting traveling. Do research on other sites that are dedicated to the travel nurse field. Try http://www.pantravelers.org as a start. Even the most seasoned travelers are having difficulty finding assignments and are having no income for months between assignements. Then, if they do find an assignement, many are being cancelled. Many travelers have decided to go staff until the economy gets better (myself included). Beware.

i think you should go to laguna beach :)

i'm on my first assignment and i like it. my recruiter is Mandy Maloney from PPR also. Although I spoke with Trinity (a company I like) and Talemed (I'm not yet sure how I feel about them). I'm ER and the plan is to get to Cali later this year also. good luck~!

oh and I read Highway Hypodermics and Travel Nursing by Padgett. both were great.

Stay away from Agostini they have some very shady pratices. I worked with them last year on perdiem basis no long term. Dont expect any kind of reference from them if another agency calls because they WILL NOT give em out. Also my last check they tried to hold because I called out on my last shift. Well they said they had the right to do so. I kindly explained to them that I did not sign any contract giving them permission to do this (remember I was just perdiem). They were dead set on keeping my check until I threatened to file a claim with the CA labor dept. Needless to say my check was then kindly put in the mail. I also have a friend who got railroaded on a long term contract with them.

I recommend On Assignment.

I would recomend figuring out what is more important to you then deciding. Do you want housing provided with all the things included? You may get a lower hourly wage. Do you want a company with better benefits? 401K and retirement? Bonuses for everything? I used "Highway Hypodermics" and that was very helpful. You basically have to decide if you want better pay but not as good bene's or if you want the bene's but are ok with less cash.

I am currently on assignment with AMN and I have to say my recruiter was awesome, she worked so hard to get me something (first timer but lots of access to travelers to bug with questions) but I am learning as I go that I may want to try another company which offers even more than I get now. My preference is for better bene's less cash but I am not the norm either. :) Hope you find something that works for you. I am on file with about 5-6 companies and 3-4 keep calling to check in with me to see how I'm doing and if they can find anything for my next assignment. I like that, makes me feel like I matter to them, even if I don't... :)
