  1. Hi I've just been offered a contract (13 weeks) in NC they are giving me $110 daily tax free but my base is $12.00. Take home would be right around $1100 also I have to pay for my own housing. This Co. does not pay for housing they will just help you locate your own. Once again this just doesnt seem right and I am hesitant about signing.
  2. If you have a recruiter giving you the run around and one you cant get a hold of you may wanna drop em. All recruiters I have ever had call or email like crazy. Try to do a search for companies that specialize in the area you want to move to. I think your experience is a pretty good combination. Things may pick up better when the holidays start to roll around. Stay positive something will open up.:)
  3. I went through the same thing first time out....made even worse by being a 6 hour flight away from home. Needless to say that was my first and last 13 week gig.
  4. Hey Globetrotterrn what agency did you use for your assignments in the Carolinas
  5. IDK just got another call today from a different agency about a NICU rotating shifts. My recruiter didn't want to submit me for the job I really wanted. She said it would look bad on the Co. if during the interview they asked me if I was ok with rotating shifts and told them no.
  6. I have been seeing this schedule offered with more and more travel jobs. Is it me or is it actually popping up more often than in the past. If so why? My recruiter had a job for me to my childhood city. I really wanted to go but when she said rotating day/night I said oh no. She tried her best to get me to reconsider. I explained to her I hate night shift as it is because my body just cant do it and there's no way I would flip flop days and nights... I would be the next admit in the Psych Unit. It was bad enough I put aside that it was 8 hour shifts when I'm so used to 3 12's. ...but the rotating shifts was a deal breaker.
  7. Hi I'm desperately looking to travel to NC Raleigh Durham area. Having a hard time finding an assignment. Does anyone know of agencies that focus in that area. I've signed up with Favorite already currently they have nothing.
  8. I currently do travel nursing and I have a 1 year old. I have been doing short assignments since she was about 3 months. My mother travels with so thats good. I figure I need to get all my traveling done before she he reaches school age. It does get kind of hard when they start moving around. You really need more space than just an extended stay. I would also advice driving to the assignment so you can bring everything you need for the baby.
  9. I did a 4 week assignment there back in April last year. The facility was really really busy during that time. Lots of snowbirds (older retired people that come to escape the cold weather) from Canada. During the summer months I hear the census is low. The city itself....not much to do unless you like to gamble. There are a couple different casinos nearby. There is also an big Marine Corps base that may have some functions for the public. Another good thing is that it is very close to the Mexico border so if you want to drive over there. The big problem is getting there if you fly. The airport is as big as a 3 car garage and unless you are flying in directly from phoenix be prepared for a looooooong flight because you will have to change planes twice.
  10. Hello Unfortunatley I still run into the same problem, but now I have learned to keep a copy of my evaluations from former employers it can act as a reference being if it is a good/satisfactory eval. I dont understand these employers all that is being asked of them is to verify the person worked for you,if they were a good employee (would you re-hire) and maybe attendance.
  11. Does this sound anywhere near right? My agency (who shall remain nameless unless someone really wants to know) has offered me a contract in CA in the NICU and the break down is: $1200 Per Diem tax free $9.00 Base Pay first 8hr $13.50 Overtime last 4hr. $500 Travel Reimburseement I told my recruiter to come back with a better base pay. I need a contract bad but I can make about that much doing 3 12's at home. Does that offer sound anywhere near right to anyone? Signed Been Around The Block a Time or Two So Don't Try To Low Ball Me RN.
  12. Stay away from Agostini they have some very shady pratices. I worked with them last year on perdiem basis no long term. Dont expect any kind of reference from them if another agency calls because they WILL NOT give em out. Also my last check they tried to hold because I called out on my last shift. Well they said they had the right to do so. I kindly explained to them that I did not sign any contract giving them permission to do this (remember I was just perdiem). They were dead set on keeping my check until I threatened to file a claim with the CA labor dept. Needless to say my check was then kindly put in the mail. I also have a friend who got railroaded on a long term contract with them. I recommend On Assignment.
  13. Hello I actually did a 13 assignment at Kaiser Redwood City. It was a Level II NICU very small just grower/feeders. Nothing less than about 32-34 weeks really. If baby needed more than oxyhood ie. CPAP they would be shipped out. As far as the name Kaiser they will not hesitate to float you after 8 hours of you shift and also they are notorious for ending contract early. I saw it happen to about 4 travelers who started when I did. Lucky for me I made it a full 13wks. Also they are very very tight on OT so you'll probably just get 36 hrs not a min more.
