Where are you starting your clinicals?

Published

My very first clinicals will be at a birth center and I'm so excited about that!!!

Was curious on what kind of areas other schools start at?

Semester 1- half Ltc, half hospital medical floor

Semester 2- half hospital surgical/Telemetry floor- half psychiatric out pt

We just started second semester

Specializes in Public Health.

1st sem: 3 wks Lab for basic skills 4 wks LTAC then 6 wks rehab facility

2nd sem: med surg at hosp and mental health at inpatient facilities

3rd sem: OB and Peds at hospital

4th sem: ICU/IMC/ER at hospital and leadership for 10 weeks and professional development class. Last 6 weeks we have preceptorship in wherever we choose

My BSN program has us start at a LTC facility. They do this because one of our elected this semester is healthy agingclass so that elective helps us learn how to work with the older population.

Specializes in Critical Care.

The first half of our first semester is in LTC (hate it so. very. much.) and then in October we're moving on to hospitals for acute care (mostly med-surg).

It varies. 1st some sort of med-surg or vascular/ortho/oncology. Same with 2nd semester plus a day in surgery. 3rd semester varies but it usually is some sort of step down level unit with rotations to ICU and ER and the last six weeks is psyh. Fourth is peds, labor and delivery, and nursing home.
