Hi there. I am very new here and am still trying to figure out how to use this website to ask questions. Hopefully i get lots of replies. I have 4 years of education in college, and now i am going back to school for the last year of college to get my Bachelors degree. However, I started wondering what I want to be. I was studying education/toursinm management. I don't even know what i would do with the degree. I am very caring person who likes to help others. I have been thinking about chaging my career path to become a nurse. But i am not sure where to start. I have no experience in this field. I take care of four little ones as a nanny, but that's about it. I live in Tempe, az. If there is anyone who is going to school in AZ to become a nurse or knows how the nursing school system works out here and how i should get started, please let me know.

Also, if threre are any advices or things i should know to become a nurse, please let me know as well. I think myself as very motivated person when i comes to things that i set my mind to it. But i am at the same time very scared for this challenge becouse I have never thought about going to school in medical field. I know it is tought to go thru. i am also scared because of my launguage barrier(engish in my 2nd language:)). But at the same time I am very excited for this challenge!! Thanks all for your time. Hope to get some replies:bow:

I suggest to get a job as a nurse assistant, you work with nurses and you can get an idea if you would like to be a nurse. Of course it is not like being a nurse but you can see what they do. You willl have to be trained and take a test to become a certified nurse assistant but there may be a nursing home in your area that would do that.

Good luck

If there are very low cost CNA programs available in the area, then this may be a good option if you're unsure about being a nurse. If not, then I would maybe look into nurse shadowing programs.

Beyond that, I guess you would have to decide whether you want to start as an LVN/LPN or go straight to an RN program. Different programs have different pre-requisite courses and different entrance requirements, so you may want to start by contacting as many nursing schools as you can and ask them about their admission requirements.

As for the language barrier, if you were able to type up a post like that in a reasonable amount of time, then I doubt you will have much of a problem. From the looks of it, you seem to have a very strong grasp of the English language.

Nursing is a tough field but very rewarding, I love being a nurse!! To get more insight do some research to see if this is for you, talk to nurses, etc. Make an appointment to see an advisor at the Maricopa Community Colleges (I would recommend Gateway Community College), all colleges have a Nursing Program, the requirements are the same but the waiting list may vary from college to college. If you want to get your Bachelors in Nursing look into ASU they have a great program.

Best of Luck!
