Where to start with Nurse Extern job?

I did not work as a NE but have worked with them for years. Almost anywhere is good because you will learn faciltity protocols, transcription of orders, policies and pecking order. If you have any idea where you might want to work in nursing that is a start. However, when you apply the recruiter might be limited to how many they can hire per semester and for which departments. So it may not be your decision anyway.

i have been a nurse extern is school. my hospital recruits directly at my school and the local schools, but if that is not the case for you contact hrs and talk to recruiters about becoming a nurse extern. some facilities have them and some do not. btw, if you know students who are externs ask them which hospitals they work for and the application process. i found out about my hospital through externs before i started nursing school. i learned more about the process once i became a nursing student. gl! :twocents:

We offer a Nursing Extern program for Senior Nursing students. We take applications for about 2 months before selecting and require a recommendation from one of the Instructors. We take 2 students per floor in all departments of the hospital. You will shadow an RN and learn to do tasks on your own. We go directly to the schools and promote the program, usually during a lunch we are providing for the students.

Just call HR/Recruiter from a few hospitals you are interested in and they will tell you all about their program if they have it.
