Where are the real prisons located?

I have worked at 2 different prisons and it seems that both of those prisons were extremely inmate friendly. Does anyone know if there are any prisons where inmates are treated like inmates?

I don't like to coddle and kiss-up to inmates. Thanks:kiss

:chuckle Yes jailDON Isn't that the truth about nurses and officers. I'm glad most nurses prefer the officers. :chuckle I just wish the nurses would not ask me to "lie" for them when hubby calls. A nurse talking about her children with a known child molester? Good grief! What was she thinking? That's good that if you have to counsel a nurse you do it without security and the inmate present. That's interesting info about Mexico. Newspapers for shoes! I sure do feel sorry for the "baby". That's amazing that the baby is considered "guilty" too.

Yeah, some nurses act like they are a kid in a candy store. The few years I was available I didn't have anything to do with the officers. They talk too much. I"ve never been asked to cover for a nurse.

Maybe you would like to work in a jail instead of a prison?

Hi jailDON

Yes maybe working in a jail might be better for me. Thanks

Hello!

I just got started in Correctional Nursing in Missouri and was wondering what facility you were at? Why did you leave? I was at Fulton State Hospital for years which of course is a Maximum Security Forensic Hospital but the patients are still inmates like in the prisons. The only difference is they copped a plea or are actually guilty by reason of insanity. But I loved that job. The politics got to be too much so I left. But now I am working the best job I have had in all my years as a nurse. I am in Department of Corrections but I am contracted through my company to provide Mental Health nursing to the female IM's. I love it! I am still learning how to do what I do and to help Medical nurses with what they have to do. My biggest thing right now is helping medical by discontinuing medications that the IM's are refusing to take. This helps bring down all the wasted medications and the extra people coming for med lines.

 I have worked in a minimum secruity prison in Missouri. They are not too bad. I think in their max prisons is even better, but you work for a contracted company called CMS.Thier pay scale is low and no retirement. I worked the 3rd shift and did not put up with any bogus emergencies. I evaluated them, documented what my assessmnet was and if it was bogus, sent them back to their cells with a medical services request slip which they are required to fill out and go through that process if it is not a real emergency. This was the safest environment I have ever worked in. I enjoyed the experience. :D

I worked at MECC in Pacific. I agree with the medication reductions you are attempting. I just hated to destroy all those meds that no one took but were contaminated after being in the IM cells. What a waste.
