Where to purchase clinical supplies?

Published

Hi all! I was accepted into the Indy ASN program beginning in August and just had my orientation this week. I was wondering if anyone could make some recommendations on where to purchase the following items, as well as any brand recommendations, etc.: Pen light, Bandage scissors, white nursing shoes. I'm assuming any scrub/uniform place would have these things? I'm mainly concerned with the shoes. I want to make sure I don't scrimp on those, since we'll be on our feet alot.

I found a good, cheap pen light and bandage scissors at Scrubs and Beyond (I know they have one in Castleton and one on the southside), and I'm pretty sure they have them at Uniform House too (there's one next door to Methodist and one in Carmel).

As for white shoes, I think you could find a million different opinions on which are the best, and honestly I was surprised to find so many to choose from. I have Sketchers, which are pretty comfy but not too cute...some of my fellow classmates swear by NurseMates...there are some really cute Nike ones that I've seen others wear, too. Just don't get anything with an open back, and something that's easy to clean is usually best.

btw, I don't know if you need a stethoscope, but I got mine from stethoscopes.com, which has free engraving....you'll definitely want to get yours engraved! A stethoscope is also something I don't think you should scrimp on because if you get a nice one you can use it for a long, long time!

I just bought white new balance and they are comfy. I have been using the same shoes since starting in Jan of 2008. Buy a decent stethescope test them out littman makes inexpensive but good ones, Pen light I bought at the same place that bought the ill fitting scrubs that Ivy tech makes you have. Good luck and enjoy.

You can get a Sprague stethoscope for about $25. Uniform stores sell them. I've had two and they are quite good as a starter. The tubing is a flat finish rubber-something, and you can write your name on it with magic marker. I've had two because I lost my first one! Also, check out http://www.jascouniform.com They sell all sorts of equipment and clothing, and it's good quality.

If you're after an excellent, but more expensive stethoscope, try the Litmann Cardiology II. It's about $125. My graduate school required it.

SAS shoes are a good option. They come in white, lots of styles, and in lots of other colors too, for when you're free to choose other colors!
