Hi everyone,
I'm hoping to relocate to work in Boston at some point soon. I am looking at work in a large city centre hospital. I am wondering what areas are a good affordable place to live if you work in central Boston?
Any help much appreciated,
Iain

Pretty much anywhere in Boston is expensive. One of my friends got a good deal in Dorchester (2 bedroom apartment), it's 1800-1900/month and split between two people. A lot of people live in the outskirts (Quincy, Braintree, Weymouth, etc.) and commute in by train. Good luck!

Hi,
As the other poster said Boston is extremely expensive, and you will probably need many roommates to afford a place in the city.
Do you have your BSN? Most Boston hospitals will not even consider you without it, unless you have significant experience in the specialty you are applying for.
I would look at some hospitals and places to live outside the city, as it would be more feasible.

Also keep in mind that if you are going to be working eves or nights and therefore maybe walking to/from the T after dark, you want to live in a relatively safe area. You could maybe find somewhere cheap in Mattapan, for example, but do you want to worry about getting stabbed if you're coming home at 11pm?
I'd find a job first then a place to live because where you work may inform which line of the T you want to be on- if you're going to work at Tufts or BMC, for example, you'll want easy access to the orange line. Anywhere in Longwood, the green line and MGH, the red line. There are no major city hospitals on the blue line.
11 years ago when I was a new grad I rented a studio apartment in Brighton for $950/month. That same apartment is probably upwards of $1200 today.
