Where do I start?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

OK, I'm graduating with my bachelors in Business Adminstration in September. I've known for quite sometime that business is not for me. After working in a hospital as a Mother/Baby patient access rep, I'm pretty sure that nursing is for me.

Anyway, after all this schooling that I've had, I've never had to take one biology class. Amazing, isn't it? I've got a 4.0 so I'm a good student. I just don't know where to start. The pre-nursing classes at the community college I'm going to go to have you jumping right into the heavy bio and chem classes. There's no intro classes required. For instance, there's no prereq for Microbiology. I've never had a college level biology class, but I think I'm smart enough to know that this isn't a class you jump right into having never taken a biological science class.

I don't have any time constraints. I just want to get all my science classes done (in the next two years) before I even think about applying for Nursing School. Given the info I just gave, would you start from the bottom in the Bio and Chem classes and work your way up? When I say bottom I mean, BIO 100...the very first Bio class you can take. Or given that I will be getting my bachelors and have the hang of college, can I just jump right in with A & P?

Any help you could give me would be great. I just can't believe I managed to get a degree without taking any biological science classes. The closest thing I have is a geology class! TIA!

Have you had high school biology? That was all I had prior to taking A&P and Micro. I think if you're a 4.0 student, you should be able to jump right in. They are designed for people to take straight out of high school.

Hi Carmen,

I had been out of school for 17 years when I started college. I never had biology nor chemistry and did just fine in it. I did take Intro to A&P, but as far as Micro, there was no intro class for it. If you are finishing up classes for a Bachelors, you should be just fine! Good luck~
