I know this question had been asked for several times about working in Canada. Here's what I am going through right now:
1. I am an international student from Malaysia on an F1 visa
2. I am going to be a new graduate nurse next year (graduating in January), however I completing the BSN-RN degree at a US university
3. I wish to work in the US but retrogression is taking places, I am looking forward to gain experiences somewhere else and Canada would be my first choice, I am also considering the UK but I heard NHS is not hiring foreign nurses for the past few years, is this still true and ongoing?
4. I am going to take my NCLEX here in the US. Since I am not going to be working in the US, do you recommend me taking the NCLEX?
5.
I also need the assistance with the following issues:
1. I am new to the Canadian forum, can somebody find me the thread that talks about "Foreign new graduates nurses interested in working in Canada" and "how does the immigration rules and policies work in Canada?
2. Anyone can suggest any international or candaian recruitment agency that helps foreign nurses to apply for Canadian immigration issues and work placement?
I am sorry if I repeated the questions in the forum. I guess I do this so that I could save time and have a brief and precise answer asap. Thanks a million!

To work in Canada you need to apply to the province that you want to work in and meet their requirements for foreign trained nurse. You need to find a employer which can easily be done by contacting the hospitals and many will have helped International nurses before and know the process. You will need a LMO but the employer gets that. Because in the healthcare profession you will need a medical before working. Some provinces will give you a temp license which allows you to work as a GN until you sit the CRNE (Canadian nursing exam). You will need a temp working permit A thread which may help you

Nothing can be done until you have completed your training

Canada also requires that you have the local license, for you that would mean writing and passing of the NCLEX exam before they will even look at your application.

There are no threads on the Canadian Nurses Forum any more that talk about internationally-educated nurses interested in working in Canada or about immigration. That forum is reserved for nurses already working in Canada who wish to discuss issues, trends and questions they have about nursing and living in Canada. The International Forum, where these posts are currently, is the appropriate venue for your questions.
As for recruitment agencies, Canada doesn't do things that way on a large scale. Each province has its own criteria, its own health care system with its own model for health care provision and its own schemes for hiring new staff. As Silverdragon102 said, you first have to decide where you want to go. Realize that Canada is the second largest country by landmass in the world, and has the population of the state of California. It's a huge country with a low population density. Once you've decided then you start researching that province and find out who to contact. For that, you CAN turn to the Canadian Nurses Forum where right at the top of the page there are stickies on how to contact each of the provincial regulatory bodies (each has multiple links to other related sites) and a cross-country comparison of wages and benefits. Good luck.

Hi! Boy am i so glad to have found this thread!! I am also an new RN in manila (and no nursing experience!) and I want to work too in Alberta. I have started communicating with CARNA and they told me that I can still apply even without the nursing practice and I could be considered as a Graduate Nurse. So, here are some of my questions (though some or may be most of these have already been answered, just wanna make sure that I have understood them correctly:
1. What are the documents that I need to submit to CARNA for the first time?
2. Do I need to pass the IELTS already before I file my application? or I can do this later?
3. Do I really have to have an employer in Canada before filing my application with CARNA? or I can already file one even without an employer?
4. What could be the consequences of having and not having an employer in CAnada?
5. Will other positions (like office assistant, etc) be allowed by CARNA before sitting for the CRNE?
6. If the nursing degree program I had in Manila does not satisfy CARNA, how do I go abot SEC?
Well, I guess that's just about if for the mean time. I hope somebody would be kind enough to accomodate my questions..
Thank you very much
You need to address those questions to CARNA. They can answer them better than any of us here.
