Where should I start? CNA in San Diego, CA.

Hi everybody,
I have been thinking about going back to school and start a career in Nursing. I always wanted to be a Nurse and right now its the right time for me to start. I am working PT as a Nanny in San Diego, CA.
I looked for information on the internet. I really do not want to get into some college, spend thousands of dollars and then end up with a diploma and credits that will not count if I want to keep studying in other college. Does it make sense?
I have checked Southwestern College in San Diego. In their website they say that they are accredited by the NLNAC and CCNE.
I have also checked San Diego Continuing Education; however I cannot find any kind of accreditation for them.
Does anyone have any suggestion? Do any of you know the programs at both Southwestern College and San Diego Continuing Education?

I went to southwestern for this summer and just graduated and passed my state exam. Go there. When you go to apply go on the first day of the app period and be early! Its a long line.

pichay808, Thanks for the info. I checked their website and it's only for people between 16 and 24 years old. I'm way past that :)

PCroizier, Thanks so much! I don't know if Summer classes have the same schedule as Fall or Spring. Do you know it? how many days per week did you go? I am currently working PT as a Nanny. My bosses are pretty flexible, so I hope I will be able to do both things at the same time. How many people were in your class?

Oh boy, I have so many questions for you!!!! lol

For summer it was 3/4 days a week for 8 weeks but I believe for fall it is 2 days a week for the 18 weeks. On their website you can look at the class schedule and look for the CNA course to make sure. I believe the fall signup is over but the spring signup is going to come soon, they do it months early. Go and print out the app because it does involve getting your vaccines signed off and a physical, plus the tb test, and it all has to be done first, not after acceptance.

If you are looking for CNA classes check the Continuing Ed - Centre City near San Diego City college San Diego Community College District

Call them right away because a lot of people trying to take the CNA class and I guess it's still first come first serve. When I took it in 2009 it's basically free, you just need to buy your books and pay for the CPR card, testing etc which is not much. If you don't have money for the book I believed they will even let you borrow it to them :)

Study hard and go directly into a BSN program.. Or asn to start. Work as a CNA after you get into a RN program. Majority of the hospitals in sd are magnet and highly prefer bsns.

Save time by doing it right the first time around.
