Where to get uniforms?

OK, found out yesterday that I have been selected for commission. Unfortunately I do not have any active duty bases nearby or even within reasonable driving distance. Any advice on where to get uniforms and gear online? I know there are a million stores out there, just seeing if anyone has any "go here, not here" or "this place has a great return policy...etc". I am looking to pick up the basic stuff (all uniforms, boots, misc gear), thanks.

I think the closest bases to me are Ft. Belvoir and Ft. AP hill. My recruiter told me that after commissioning that the Cpt. at the recruiting station would help me get squared away with AKO, ID cards and my recruiter would help with the uniforms.

On a side note I heard that the Army is changing the uniform from UCP starting in October,

Army seeks 3 variants of camo to replace UCP - Army News | News from Afghanistan & Iraq - Army Times

has anybody heard anything about this?

What service are you going into Ajax? Just FYI, belvoir only has a small uniform shop with only army items. This is a joint facility but there is not a single navy item at this clothing store...I have to go to Bethesda for any uniform items!

I would suggest trying clothing & sales at Ft. Myer (Arlington). My recruiter took me there to get all my stuff, and they had everything I needed in all the right sizes (and I'm small). It was about 75 miles from my house, but after a decade of DC-area commuting, that's like ... nothing. LOL

Do commissioned officers buy the uniforms outright or is there an allowance? About how much do they run? Just want to get a head start if possible.

I am applying to the army nurse corps as a critical care rn. How about you? Are you on the ncp? Or did you go in as direct commission?

Thanks Lunah! Will definitely check out Ft. Myers! I love about an hour and half west of dc, which like you said isn't too bad of a commute!

I have heard that commissioned officers have to buy there uniforms. Although I think there is some sort of credit you can get towards it, like a military credit card with like no interest/low interest. I have heard others like Lunah talk about it for the army, not sure about the air force.

I dropped about $1K to get fully outfitted, which included my ASUs and required alterations. Army officers get a one-time reimbursement of $600 that is taken care of at BOLC.

I am in the nurse corps. I was a direct commission. Went thru ODS in feb.
