I live in the Pensacola/Milton/Tallahassee area. I am in need of an RN refresher course, due to expired RN license. I have searched high and low on the site, and cant find anything. Its even difficult to locate anything from the Board of Nursing, in FL. The Online classes are for the birds, they cost in excess of 1500.00 to 2k  Any input would be greatly appreciated. If I can't locate anything....gotta do what I gotta do.....

Hey there! I found this on the Department of Health website as a pdf file. Hope it helps and good luck.:nurse:

Florida Board of Nursing Approved Remedial Courses

program director with the director’s original signature as proof of program completion.

This letter must be sent directly to the Board office by the program.

Applicants who have failed the NCLEX three consecutive times will require a

letter to begin the remedial course. To obtain a letter, please call 850-245-

Hi, I took the Theroy Refresher at USF/Univ. of South FL $750.00. You can start ASAP on line. I was really boring but worth it.

Most places will not hire you if you have been out of nursing for awhile unless you have both Clinical and Theroy. The Clinical is another $750. Plus, the fingerprinting, background check, Hep B update and Misc. white uniforms. uhh! Not check, I checked everywhere. They all add up to about $1200-1400. But worth it. Check your local colleges for a refresher. They should be starting soon in August. How long have you out of nursing? Good luck.

I finally took the course thru Capscare! cost me 1675.00 for clinical and theory :yelclap: The course was boring. I breezed through it like in 2-3 wks. it was at your pace. My only complaint is they are VERY VERY SLOW, AND UNORGANIZED!!!

I am able to do my clinical in Pensacola, FL, since I don't live down south. I have been thru with theory for about 3 wks now, and they still have not gotten back to me about starting clinicals. I call every day. Of course they have all my money. sigh. You have to have a back ground check, shot records up to date, tb test. After all is said and done, I think I have spent a total of about 1800.00 out the door with scrubs and all. Plus the 250.00 for the license. I will NEVER NEVER let my license expire again.....

Good for you! Yep, no easy or cheep way around it! Good luck on your clinical. Let us know how it goes.

Question? How long was it for the BON to give you back "OUR MOST PRIZED POSSESSION" after everything was completed??? Did they approve it in the office or did it have to go the the big meeting held every 3-4 months??? I sure hope not.

Hi. I know this is an old post but I'm looking to take a RN refresher course and I live in Pensacola as well. Where did you do your clinicals in this area? Thanks

Specializes in Managed Care, Onc/Neph, Home Health.

I was able to take them at Sacred Heart. They have a deal worked out with Capscare, the online refresher course I took. The course was like 1600.00, work at your own pace. They found me a preceptor, through the education dept. I HAD TO STAY ON THEM! I had to take a at SHH before hand of how to work their computer system and med cart and the likes. This program requires 96 hrs of clinical. I chose 4 12hr shifts, sat and sun 7a-7p worked along with my preceptor, on med-surg (4 wknds) and got it out of the way, the month of Sept 2012, and got my license Oct 2012. You HAVE to see when the board meets to get it reinstated. The board meet only like 5-6 times/yr. The board met in Tallahassee in Oct, I was lucky. I didn't have to go, but I didn't take ANY chances, I showed up anyway, in case I had to state my case as to why I was inactive or something. Yanno, there is always something.

Good Luck....drop me a line, If any more questions. I WILL NEVER LET MY LICENSE GO AGAIN HERE IN FL!!!!!

Thanks for the info! My license is active but I haven't done clinical nursing in 5 years. I've been doing telephonic nursing during this time, started in Tampa and moved here 2 years ago. I was fortunate my job allowed me to work from home but unfortunately that contract ended. I have tried looking for similar work but it seems like everyone wants you to be in the same city/state they are hiring in.It's very difficult to find a job in this area and I haven't had recent clinical experience. My past experience was workin . subacute, rehab and ltc. Did you find by taking the refresher course it made it easier to find a job?

I didn't realize it was going to be this hard to find a nursing job!!

Sorry this was so long, just venting a little.

I just got a job In April with Humana, and I work from home doing UR. My job Is based out of Daytona Bch. I am very blessed. It was difficult period getting a job, being out of the clinical setting for me. Managed Care had been my area too since 1997!! I had moved back here from ATL had had a ga license, which I had let expire, and my fl license exp when I got my ga license in 1997. MY GA license expired due me being on long term disability and not being able to work since 2004. I had brain surgery due to grand mal seizures. Now off LTD as of Jul 2012, that's how I got back to work. Nursing has changed so much. I have been an RN for 30 yrs, and NOBODY WOULD HIRE ME, even though I had my license with the refresher and my past experience. BCBS on Indeed.com, I see have openings for managed care positions. I applied there before I got on with Humana. I previously worked for Aetna for like 12 yrs before I moved back to P'cola. This area is difficult to find work in the managed care industry. I would look at Indeed.com Simplyhired.com those are the2 sites I checked daily. I would "managed care" in the search window, if that's your field

oh yeah, without taking that refresher course with Capscare Academy, I don't know is Sacred Heart offers just a straight up refresher course for nurses. You may want to call the Education dept at the hosp.

Hi RN in FL.

I just read your post it gives me hopes that I too can find an online RN remediation course. I failed the RN boards 3 times & now need 2 take a remediation course/clinical. So do you recommend Capscare? Cause I need an online class to take too, I live in the Pensacola/gulf breeze area. Any advice you can give me would greatly be appreciated. I've emailed Greenville college about their approved online program & capscare. Do you know of any area hospitals that are approved for doing clinical at for remediation? Also where did you end up doing your clinicals finally after the school gave you an ok to take clinical?
