Where is the best $$ in psych jobs

I am getting ready to set up clinical rotations for specialty year in psych. Does anyone know what type of job/setting pays the best? I'm pretty sure private practice pays better than state hospitals...but does anyone have any suggestions?

If you've got some serious balls, I would say state prisons pay the best. I kid you not, San Quentin Prison in San Fransisco starts at nearly 100K. I would do it but my husband says NO WAY. Good luck, Great question!:angryfire

Oh wait a minute. Your talking about NP. my bad. The previous statement was RN salary. Im not sure about NP.

Don't know about NPs but here forensic psych pays the best.

I want to do psych NP. How do you like the program? I'm a psych floor nurse and im not happy, but i love psych. I don't actually know what pays =P

That is very interesting. I always thought the VA pay was lower but the plus was their awesome benefits. Thanks for the info.

You could earn in the low $100,000 range per year as the CNO (chief nursing officer) of a medium-to-large psychiatric hospital. Of course, attaining a managerial position of this nature would require some bedside nursing experience.
