When the weather gets really bad.....do you still go out and see patients?

Or do you take a "snow day" and scheduled them for the next day? Just wondering...I'm kind of torn between just taking tomorrow off (my son's school has already cancelled) but then I would have 8-9 pts to see the remaining days...each day. What would you all do?Take the day as a snow day and be SUPER busy the rest of the week (not even taking SOCs) or suck it up...but chance having a car accident....What would you all do?

When I was in HC, we'd prioritize the ones that really need to be seen. Then we would call the others, make sure they were ok, they knew what they needed to do, and let them know they'd be seen later in the week. Tell them to call 911 in case of emergency.

Might mean that only one or two would actually be seen that day.

I have consciously chosen not to live in an area with this type of winter weather, although I have interests there. Or, if I move there, I plan on not working in home health.

Well, if we call in on a day that the agency has decided to stay open.. it's counted as a call-in just like any other call in. So I guess unless the whole agency closes due to weather, we really don't have the individual choice whether or not to go in to work.

We did close today though. And, I will call in if I feel like it's unsafe for me to drive, whether the agency closes or not.

Also, on days that we are open, we WILL still prioritize; see the most important patients, SOC's, etc..

Nurses safety first. If something happens to me, my company will not provide for my wife and children. I take care of my family first, patients second.

That being said, today was a snow day. :)
