I agree with MomRN0913. I just accepted an offer on a position and said to the guy offering the position that I need these certain days off. That way they could rescind the offer if need be. The HR rep said that since we were still in the itnerview process that it would be okay and just to remind him when I come in for pre-employment paper work.
It hopefully will owrk out, just let them no sooner rather than later.
I would have at least 2 weeks notice before the surgery when it is approved. If I am offered this position, when would I bring up the week off I would need for surgery/recovery?
Any advice?
Heather, You should let them know immediately. They aren't going to take very kindly to you accepting a position, only to take a week off within the next two months. If you talk about it now, perhaps they can schedule a start date that coincides with your recovery dates. You could continue working at your current job until it was time for your surgery and simply resign effective the date of your surgery. Everything works out for everyone.
You don't have a surgery date or even approval yet, so I wouldn't mention it at all. After all, are they going to ask you for your medical records when you finally do get the surgery to see when you knew about it? I don't think so.
When the time comes, you tell your manager: "After years of problems with sinus infections, my doctor feels that I actually need surgery now. So, unfortunately, I'll be needing some time off starting (date). My surgery is scheduled for (date)."
End of story
Don't create a problem until there is one to address.

I just recently interviewed for a Public health immunization nurse position and it went extremely well! I do have one predicament. I have to have surgery for a sinus problem sometime soon. The surgery is having to be appealed to my insurance company and I am waiting on approval.
