When should I take Chemistry?

Published

I posted this message on my local board but feel I may receive a better response on the pre-nursing board...

I'm planning on taking Bio 141, A&P I in the Summer. Would it be better to take CHM 01, basic Chemistry in the Summer or in the Fall with Bio 142, A&P II? I currently work full time and would like to pass these classes with at least an A or a B. Oh, I also need to take Ethics and Microbiology... I plan on taking Ethics with whichever class I am not taking Chemistry. I've heard Microbiology is very difficult and prefer to take it by itself. I appreciate any advice... :yeah:

I'm gonna have to defend my alma mater by saying that it's a major 4-year research institution, and hardly a week goes by without one of its professors being published in a major journal.

Also, just because something isn't hard doesn't mean it doesn't require work. By "hard" I mean "difficult to grok" which nothing at the 100-level really is.

To the OP: I'm also working FT, and am only able to manage taking one class at a time with my schedule. But then again, I really would not be satisfied with anything less than an "A." I took A&P I, followed by A&P II, and am now in Chemistry. I'm glad I'm taking Chemistry now, b/c I have to take the TEAS test later this year, and I heard there was a decent amount of Chem. stuff on it. I also have to take Organic Chem. for my program (shudder).

They're hard for many of us even at the 100 level - including those of us who went to colleges and universities were the profs published - and for those of us who have been published. I know phd's would struggle with 100 chem - so it's quite possible.

I completely agree. If it has been awhile since you have been exposed to science and math, it isn't going to be a walk in the park. Chem. especially, if math was never your strong suit. I can think of a bunch of people I know with PhDs that would cringe at the thought of Chem.

I'm taking Chem, A&P1 and Nutrition this semester. I'm getting As so it can be done. Its nice to be able to look in my chem book when I run across a related question in AP. I had to take them like this because of my schedule. In the fall I'm taking Organic & Biochem, Micro and Human G&D together.

Hmm... I may take Chm 01 and A&P II together... I have never had a chemistry course before and I struggle in Math. I think I will sign up for A&P I and ethics in the Summer and look into A&P II and chemistry in the Fall. I don't know why I making this so complicated... I guess I would hate to make the wrong decision.

Truth is, combining different classes will have different results for different people. Our microbiology teacher told us the first day that if we are taking micro and anatomy at the same time that we need to drop one b/c the two are too difficult to take together. A couple of students in the class had alredy taken anatomy and they felt like so far micro is more difficult, so they agree wth the instuctor. I know of one girl who is still attempting it, I'm not sure how she is doing. My advisor also strong suggested I take chemistry before micro, but taking them both this semester was the only way I could apply for the NS program in the fall. As of right now I don't regret my decision, I'm doing just fine in each
