When can you apply for student loans?

Published

After you're accepted? After you've actually enrolled? What if you can't enroll till you've got the money?

I "had" some money saved back and a few credit cards just waiting to be whipped out and used in case of any last-minute emergency spending orgies.....

but,

My daughters head-gasket decided to blow and,

it's gone,,

I'm sorta out of ideas, it's either gofundme.com or selling my white-ish size 9 fruit-of-the-loom granny panties on craigslist,

Either way I don't see myself making a lot of $$,

Loans it is! but when do I start the begging?

Anyone need a kidney?

You can apply for financial aid as soon as you apply to the program. Your federal data will be compiled as soon as it's ready. However you won't receive a financial aid offer from the school and they won't qualify you for federal student loans until you are accepted.

High interest private loans can be applied for at any time

Apply for FAFSA and fill out the info on there first to see if you're eligible for any free money (grants) or subsidized loans.

If yes, the information will go to your financial aid office at the school of your choice and they will continue the process.

It has always been my experience to be enrolled in a school (not necessarily signed up for courses, just a confirmed student) and apply. The financial aid office will double check to see your credit hours you're signed up for and they will grant the aid as long as you meet the requirements.

I highly suggest trying to FAFSA first. Private loans have insane interest rates and you never know how much you may be eligible for in grants!

Good luck.
