Whats the written portion of CNA exam like and

1. Whats the written portion of the CNA exam like? Do they get in depth like knowing all the different forms of dementia or stuff like that?
2. When you are given the skills that your tested on do you have time to run through the candidate handbook and study in between?

The written portion is "A,B,C,D" and is very basic quetions. "When you walk in a room and see a resident crying, do you A) tell her to stop crying, B) tell her only babies cry, C) allow her to express what is bothering her, or D) pretend not to notice.

There are many questions just this easy, believe me!!! It is one of my problems with the cna test!!!

As for your second question, I believe you are asking do you have enough time in between each TASK to read the book, right? The answer to that question would be NO. You are given a card with 5 things you must do (ie: wash hands, bp, dress client, modified bath.) you must then complete the 5 task, in the order that they are on the card, in the alotted time. Now if you are asking if you have enough time between the written and the skills test to review your book, the answer is, in my experience, yes. However, some testing facilities will not allow you to bring your handbook to test day.

I live in Ohio, and the State Exam was VERY easy. No complicated questions whatsoever. I think i might have gotten a 98% or something like that, and I was soooo nervous that I wouldnt pass. As for the Skills test, you do NOT have any time to study. The examiner gives you a scenario and you listen to all three at once. For instance, "Mr. Smith needs to be given a partial bed bath before he goes to the dining room where he will need fed. He also needs you to comb his hair". You do the first task (after the Handwashing task) and then you may ask the examiner to repeat the 2nd task if you dont remember it. You then continue just as if you were in a real LTC or HSP setting. You verbally note that you "washed your hands" in between each task, so that you dont really have to wash your hands 3 times. You can ask to hear the scenario again, but cannot ask questions. Just remember (at least for Ohio) you can verbally note that you forgot a step, like if you forget to shut the curtain before Peri-care or something like that. You can TELL them you forgot that and they wont count you off. And if you DONT need to higher the bed, TELL them! or they will count you off (personal experience lol)...
