What's the weirdest baby name?

Specialties Ob/Gyn Nursing Q/A

Hi, I was wondering about some of those weird names that you've probably encountered in L&D and PP. I remember when I had my maternity rotation a couple of weeks ago, one of the nurses said she remembers a patient that named her child Placenta. I couldn't believe it that some child has to live his life named after disgusting afterbirth!

Ok, get this. I am not even officially a nurse yet but when I was looking for some names when I was pregnant I came across a mother who named her child this. It's true, I saw it myself. Her name is Unique Paradise. Ok, I like unusual names but let's not force them into a career that....well, ya know.:monkeydance:

When I worked full time at the birth center, I discovered that you cannot list "gypsy," "elf," "goddess," or "fairie" as your ethnicity/heritage, but you CAN list "norse viking" "celt" and "anglo-saxon". We had someone recently submit "Samauri" but I haven't heard yet if that was accepted by the state.

Aren't Celt and Anglo-Saxon heritages? I'm confused I guess. I mean, yeah, they are kind of old and not really around anymore, but there are still people that speak Scottish Gaelic as a first language. I am sitting right next to my copy of National Geographic from a few mos back that discusses Celts. I guess maybe its more of a culture than an ethnicity. Not that I'd put Celt down - the most specific I would get would be "northern european", though I am sure there are some Celts in my ancestry and dh probably has norse vikings in his - when we lived in Iceland we blended right in as long as we did not dress like Americans.

Back to topic though, I have a friend who is a 3rd grade teacher and there was a kid in her class named Pimp Juice. She's got a whole bunch of names that are just quite different, but that's the only one I remember right now. I hope they call him PJ. yikes. :uhoh21:

Hello--

I'm not a nurse yet but my mom is a speech pathologist and she has had some wacky student names over the course of her career. lady parts...another poster mentioned this one also.

Okay, this next one is really bad...Gonorrhea...pronounced "Gon-ora." How awful is that?

I think you can send a request to the mods to change your name...just make sure you include what name you want.

Worked in PICU just last week, had a 6 mo. baby girl come in resp. distress. As I was doing admit paper work, I saw the name Areola.....I thought as in nipple? Apparently it is pronounced A-rey-la.

Also, there is an urologist in the town I live in.....Richard Tapper....not kidding!

Sure they are; but so is "gypsy". I'm not sure that there are a whole lot of Kansans who are exclusively "norse-viking," celtic, or anglo-saxon. Most of us are a bit more muttish than that, and "northern european," Irish, or English probably would suffice.

Where I used to work we (largely Hispanic population) we had an older man with the name of CircuncisiĆ³n. You guessed it...circumcision. Now, I realize as a parent it's your prerogative what to name your baby, but for the life of me, I cannot visualize looking down at my sweet newborn baby boy and naming him Circumcision.

"Coonception (actual spelling). I don't get it."

Concepcion is a common hispanic name. Yes, it means conception: it is in honor of hte Immaculare Conception.

In every elevator in my area on the inspection sheet you will see a picture of a lovely lady-

Cherie Berry

She was on a local radio station recently and explained that when her father was in France during the war, he heard them say "Mon Cherie" and loved it so it is pronounced shah-REE.

Love wacky names--when I was working in the business world, I had a client whose name was Kitty Peed!!

I went to school with a girl named Polly Esther Sheets!!!

And I had a patient (in dental field) named Mohammed Mohammed.

And another patient had a last name of Butkis.

Once worked with twins, America and Prescious, that was nice.

Haven't read the whole thread but have you heard of Germaine Jackson's kid? Germajesty! hahaha
