What's the strangest thing you've seen?

This has always been my question for nurses and cops who both see really weird things in their line of work. One nurse told me that she saw a man with "gaseous gangrene" on his leg. Now I've heard of gangrene but never gaseous gangrene. She said it stunk like crazy. There was once a book out about experiences in the ER but the stories were so far fetched they seem made up. What's the weirdest thing you seen? I think it makes for great conversation piece. BTW, I'm not a nurse but one of the weirdest things I've seen actually happened to me. I had a painful pimple on my back. When I looked closely in the mirror I realized that it was a large boil. It appeared to have a scab but then there was another scab not far under it. This is gross sorry but I've never seen anything like it. It left a large hole which grossed me out big time. I never went to the doctor. But I think now that I had MRSA then.

OK, how about the funniest thing I've ever seen since this is in a similar thread. I've seen a 80 year old resident of a LTC facility that had ED get weekly "oral favors" from his very young wife. lol...We never understood what either party was getting out of it..ewww..maybe it was because he was very wealthy....hmmmm.

Yeah - forgive me - but I was thinking, "her bills paid".

As it is, the thing that's freaked me out the most to date was when my pt's rectum prolapsed - or when I went to get the Dr and he said to just push it back in...I almost died...

We had a family member - a wife who was a bit of a shrew, actually - who SLEPT IN THE BED and made her husband SLEEP IN THE CHAIR. Uh, the husband was my patient! Put a stop to that one real quick.

I've also seen some really weird family dynamics. We had one pt in his mid thirties whose mom would come up to take care of him and stay with him. The thing was, he wanted her to have no information at all. Huh? You'd go in to change a PCA syringe or give meds, and he didn't want you to talk about it out loud! Fine, but da*n near impossible to do.

When I was a CNA, we had an elderly gentleman on our unit who had had one of those early penile implants, the ones that were always semi-rigid. Well, this guy was well into his 90's, and a real mess, all contracted and very frail. But when we would change his Attends, there was Mr. Happy, saluting us. It was very disturbing...

...We thought he was just happy to see us...
