What's going to keep you motivated????

Published

I start CRNA school this August at ODU and I know it's going to be all that everyone says and more, but what is the one thing that will keep you motivated when the going gets tougher than tough. I have a pitcure of a nice big house that I want with the mega master bedroom and bath, the big body benz...and vacations in the carribean, and college fund for my kids, shopping, shopping, and shopping....you all get the pitcure right? Oh yeah, and autonomy and no more but wiping or denture cleaning! What's the one thing for you that will make it all worth it?:roll

BOOYA. Nice job skipaway.

What is this? Watergate? Maybe I should be a neurologist because I've obviously touched a nerve. Oh well, I welcome any debates. Tell your friends at work theres a New Yawker in town who tells it like it is.

30andconfused,

There is nothing wrong with advancing your education to make more money. But, don't say that none of us would go this route to make the same money. I just finished up my first year of a front loaded military program, and hope to train over the next 18 months to graduate and make the same captain's pay as a CRNA as I have made as an ICU and ER nurse in the USAF. Yeah, if I want to get out after paying back the 5 years I owe the USAF for school, I can make better money. But that is not what it's about for me and alot of other people. I am gauranteed to get deployed to an unknown location w/in 4-5 months of graduating, provide anesthesia for dedicated young men and women who do a harder job than any of us will do for a lot LESS money. I might get a bonus after I pay back my 5 years, but it is not gauranteed. Just realize that you don't know everyone's motivation. It does not bother me that you are doing this for the money, but don't discount the fact that many of us are not doing it for the money. Thanks.

I'll give you a pass cuz Goose Goosage was my favorite pitcher. Maybe you're not but when you have posters in here talking about a "Mega Bathroom set" I suspect many more have the same desires.

Honestly, what is your play here? You come on here, make fun of what we do and earn, then question our motives....Then what?

Yeah buddy, I'll be sure to tell my co-workers there's a NY'er who, frustrated at being middle-aged and in a dead end job, decides to pursue nursing figuring you can make some money to be able to get into real estate. But the catch is that you don't want to mess with patients too much, you just want to show up, clock in, do cushy ambulatory surgery type of work, check off a couple of boxes, and call it a day. Heaven forbid you actually have to be a patient advocate and do what is right for someone. Then you decide to question people's motivation of becoming a CRNA (because you think this is easy money) and attempt to belittle the income we make. Think about this IT dude - income is reflective of responsiblity. We earn it and you are no one to question or slander what we do or get paid for.

Dude you have no idea of the committment you are mocking, esp for someone that hasn't even finished nursing school. You have no idea of what you are spewing about. I have been chasing this dream since college in the early 90s. Free speech, fine. Rant all you want, but you don't carry much weight around here.
