We've all had those experiences of the delivery that is anything from the morm. It's the one, two, or multiples that just stick in your mind. Contribute the craziest stories from the Del Room, ER,, Emergency services here.

Well, I have had so many I don't know where to start, but one that stays in my mind is a night shift when I received a laboring patient from a local state hospital who had 25 warrants including one for attempted murder, who was SUPPOSED to have an attendant with her, our security person AND a police officer BUT....
She was seven centimeters, standing on the stretcher, threatening to punch me..Her attendant was out at the desk with our security officer and both were cowering..No police officer available...The pt is screaming at me that she hates me and is leaving the ######place and I am wondering how in the world I am going to keep her there when I notice in between screaming she is grunting ( the old push grunt) and yelling that she has to take a s***! (frankly right about then I was feeling the same way)...Somehow the doctor talked her down and she ended up having a face presentation and then a csection...When that was all said and done ( and just imagine the recovery and post partum phase), I got a patient who was lesbian, HIV positive with open sores and an IVF pregnancy...It was a horrible night!

What a great thread! As someone who thinks of becoming a L/D nurse but has very little experience (other than my own -- when, yes, I hit my dear husband), I'd LOVE to hear about wild, funny, extreme birth stories!

Had a doctor call us on OB saying her patient with a rapid history of labor/delivery was on the way in, and to be ready. Well, she did arrive, and we got an urgent call from our ED. Ran down, precip pan and baby supplies in hand, only to find her in a cubicle with her husband, calmly and contentedly cuddling their newborn.I asked them where she delivered. Husband spoke up and said "well right here in your parking lot in the car". Seems the wife told him baby was coming NOW and he just calmly pulled into an empty slot, delivered the baby and then wrapped them both up in a blanket. Then he very nonchalantly walked into the ED and asked if he could have some help getting his wife and baby up to OB.
He seemed so calm so I had to ask, "how was it you remained so calm"? He just said, "well I could see his head coming, the wife was screaming that funny way she does when it's time, and I just put on my catcher's mitt and caught. Isn't that what you all do anyhow?"
He was unflappable, as was the mom. We staff were BY far more shaken by this. They were lucky the baby and mom were not hypothermic, it was only 25 degrees out! But both were just fine when we wheeled them up to OB.
WE have had several "toilet deliveries" (who in OB has not seen these?)
But ......a set of twins born to a very obese mom in the ED (she was there to rule out appy) comes to mind.....boy did that suck, getting THAT call in OB....rofl. Nothing like trying to warm twins born in the toilet!!!! (yes she thought she had to poop and was in denial about her pregnancy, so no one knew what was going on just then). Talk about rapid labor!
But if you spend enough time in OB, you will see the occasional attempted toilet delivery....it happens all the time. But not usually in ED, with twins to a woman unknown as-yet to even be pregnant! I felt sorry for them that day....
