self-inflicted GSW to chest...to OR...not a drip...back in unit x 10 minutes...Mt. St Helens erupted....40+ blood products in addition to 6 autotransfusions from the CT's...actually emptied 8 atriums....of course the end result is what you can imagine....long night though...residents learned NOT TO SQUEEZE the autotransfusion bags!!! ie...blood bath in the room, walls, hair, scubs, monitor..etc...LONG NIGHT of Charting!!!
52 units in 8 hours..then they finally decided to take him back for "possible bleeding"...oh the kicker? the family comes in to visit and relates they just diagnosed patient with Von Willenbrand's before admission but patient didn't feel it necessary to tell us that pre-op. LONG night
Don't you hate this crap???? When they do not tell you everything?
About 84 of just packed cells. Gave NaHCO3, CaCl, and LR/NS boluses between every few units of product. It was just myself and the surgeon running all that mess without an autotransfuser. Yes, the surgeon stayed with me the whole 12 hr shift, as well as stayed the 12 hrs with the next RN. They gave nearly the same amt of products as I did, and the surgeon was still at the bedside when I came back in to start my next shift. It was a memorable experience, to say the least.

Just wondering... I'd say probably around 30+ for me but I'm curious if someone has a ridiculous story to share.
