What is the best way to find a clinical preceptor for FNP program other than just opening up the phone book and calling one after another? I am in first semester of FNP program through a distance education program. So far, making my own arrangements for a preceptor has been the main obstacle. I am in the neighborhood of Travis AFB, Ca.

I'm surprised no one else at the school has thought about IHS for preceptors as the IHS are in a lot of states.

That's a great idea.

There is little book called the Blue Book that lists docs and np's in certain areas. You might try asking your personal doc, pediatrician and get some names from there. The book lists specialties, and has phone numbers.

The local hospital Fast Track is also a good place to learn.

Ask around and see if anyone knows a doctor/np who might precept for you - word of mouth was the best way for me. Good luck - heaven knows the school was no help whatsoever.

can you put up a poster/notice on a hospital bulletin board - to ask for a preceptor?

maybe your licensing organization can help?

Contact your state's APN organization.

And...since this post is years old - the poster may have found a preceptor - hopefully.
