Seems to me like you're just trying to get into any healthcare program and nursing specifically. I did not have a back up because I feel it'd be unnecessary. Take your prereqs and get mostly As. Study for the TEAS or whatever exam and do well. Apply to a fair amount of schools and wait. If you don't get in, ask the programs what made you a weak candidate and improve for next cycle.
I believe that practical nursing school is a great back up plan if you need one. Many nurses that I have worked with started as practical nurses. The important thing to remember is that nursing is very much a professional that requires life long learning. Moving from an LPN to and RN, and on to a BSN, MSN, DNP or PhD are all move in the right direction. Good Luck!
I am stressed as well. the staff at my current nurse's aid job are hard to deal and finding unnecessary reasons to fire people. My plans is to go into Phlebotomy and I've changed my mind because afraid I'll waste 8 months, 2 semesters, getting the certificate in Phlebotomy and never finding a job. It's competitive since it's a low ranking job in medical field. The sign-up for fall classes just opened last week and all phlebotomy classes are full. I'm looking for a new job at a different place and continue working on prerequisites class for nursing program. Now, I must decide which program to do, LPN or ASN.

My friend was number 15 on the wait list for all three schools in the consortium was told was two year wait. Luckily able to get into a LPN program in the fall.
Curious what your backup plan's are?
The CC's here recently changed entry requirements for PTA school to match nursing prerequisites and also take the TEAS. Planning on applying to the PTA program, the Repository Therapy program, and possibly the Radiology Technician program at my local CC. Also with science courses probably complete a few more and look into applying to a medical technologist program and will submit my application for LPN school of I don't get accepted right away.
