My husband is in the Navy and we're thinking about going to Virginia for our next duty station. Right now we're in Hawaii which has no LPN programs, 1 ADN program and 2 BSN programs. You can only imagine how excited I am to know that VA has so many more nursing programs!
My question is, what are the wait lists like? Will it be years before I get into a program? Are their schools that don't have wait lists? My husband is willing to go anywhere I can get into nursing school. I already have my bachelors in Business Admin, but I'm more than willing to go to any good school that will let me in. I should have all my pre-reqs done in March 09.
Can anyone give me some ideas about wait times? Thanks!

Which part of VA are you thinking of moving to?
Williamsburg, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Little Creek...they're all options.
Sorry...don't know anything about the schools way down yonder. Good luck, though!

Wait lists aren't a big problem here in the Hampton Roads area. You'll have lots of options. Contact each school for the specifics about their program. The programs vary widely in their requirements, curricula, etc.
Good luck to you! I think it is a great region to live in -- and welcome you to the area.

If your coming to tidewater, I'd apply soon. Not a lot of wait lists per say, but the hoops you have to jump through are many. Each program has their own set of requirements and there is not a common path to follow for all. Pick a program and go for it.

check out the community college, their tuition is cheaper and out of state tuition rates are waived for military families. You have to ask for it! I think the same applies for state four year college too. Since you have your B.A., you can also check the "nursing as 2nd degree program" which gives you credit for your 1st degree. Good Luck!

Don't know about the wait lists- but I live/work in the Charlottesville Area- I'm going to PVCC [Piedmont Virginia Community College]- I've heard its hard to get into the Nursing program- so I'm crossing my fingers for when my time comes for that- I'm still doing the PreReq's... Good luck!

Technical schools generally dont have waitlists, but the cost is definitely higher because all costs are included. Sentara School of Health professionals is cheaper up front, but they do require that you pay all incidental cost that must be paid as you go along. ( books, id badges, scrubs, parking fees, lab fees) Also, with Sentara, you must complete your prerequisites elsewhere before you can be accepted. The pre-requisites could take about a year or 2 at community college. Their program is days only.
Norfolk State, Old Dominion, and Tidewater Community also have nursing programs. TCC has a 2 to 3 year wait list. Im not real sure about the other. Hope this helps.
