What unit would prepare me best to become an ICU nurse?

Published

Between USC CT Tele and Cedars Pulmonary/GI MedSurge (to be converted to a PCU later this year), which would best prepare me to become an ICU nurse?

Specializes in Physiology, CM, consulting, nsg edu, LNC, COB.

Without knowing either hospital's individual quirks, I'd guess Pulm/GI/MS->PCU for range. But Tele will give you a jump start on ekg and sicker patients, so there's that.

Specializes in ER.

oooh, tele for sure

Specializes in Nurse Anesthesiology.

Hold out and just start straight in an ICU.  Many hospitals are desperate for help and are hiring new grads straight to the ICU now.

Thank you all for your input! I greatly appreciate it!
