Hi,
I signed my contract April 22, 2016. They have shuffled me around looking for a treatment program to take me. I am finally going into Orientation Monday, June 6. My incident happened in August and was not practice related, so I assumed (wrong idea) that I did not need to enroll in HPMP.
Now I have passed my 30 days of medical leave and had to resign from my former job.
I am fearful of going broke, between my lawyer, treatment, and costs to keep my family afloat.
One nurse I met told me that she cold called Attorneys and found a consulting job that paid better than her job at the hospital, but I never got her number I have QM/RM experience. I am a BSN in Virginia. I am going to try to call law firms next week, I'm not sure which types to try first. Would it be a good idea to apply at call centers too?
Anything can help.

I had thought about law firms as well when i was new. The lack if patient care didnt sit well with me and i also figured that law firms wouldn't want someone in hpmp as the legal nurse is essentially the law firms "medical expert" and could be easily discredited by opposing counsel. Many if us have found work in dialysis as theres no narcs. I have found that the mentality of dialysis is difficult to deal with. From the techs who only seem to want to get finished and out of work as quickly as possible to management who although technically are RNs seem to solely committed to "the numbers" and making money for the company. It was a nursing job and i needed it so i took it. Perhaps this is only my clinic though... What part if the state are you in Niki77?

Did you ever find work in nursing? I've found jobs in dialysis but like vamurse said it is mentally taxing. The clinic I'm at now has been great until recently and driving an hour to work just to be exhausted with the upper managements inexperience and inconsideration for clinical staff is getting to be a bit much. Thankful for the job and ability to work as an RN thanks to recovery and hpmp, but longing for a place I love to work.

I am almost done with HPMP at this point; however, I have found work while in HPMP. I have found nursing jobs in a variety of settings in different parts of the state. My first job was Med/Surg floor in southwest Virginia; second job was PCU still in southwest Virginia but closer to the central part of Virginia. My current job is in Mental Health/Addictions in central Virginia. I have loved and appreciated all of my jobs and am extremely grateful to my current and past managers for being given the opportunities.
I started out in HPMP from the time I was given my license; so, in the beginning, it was hard to find a job as I had a double whammy of being a new graduate and being in HPMP. I was terrified I would never work as a nurse...but with time and help of getting to know people, I found a nursing job two years from the day I graduated college. I have been working as a nurse for about two and a half years at this point and absolutely love it. I couldn't imagine being in any other field.
I'm in dialysis but applied for some med/surg positions, less than 2. Years left in hpmp so hopefully I can find a hospital job my last couple years while under monitoring.
what part of the state are you in, if I may ask?

I had a months experience when my license got suspended. I was out of nursing for several years before deciding to come back to it. No one would hire me without a diploma and i applied a lot of places-hundreds. Had lotsb of phone and in person interviews but the restrictions were a problem for most. I even had a job offer recinded. And i was up front. Ultimately i found a job in av psych hospital that i love. I work with an extremely supportive staff who dont judge me. This might be a good area to explore.

I'm in VA too...feeling rather hopeless now. Surrendered my license in lieu of a formal proceeding. Criminal charges for narcotic diversion (pending since Jan 2016) may be reduced to a misdemeanor due to a 1st offender program. Still, I don't know if it's worth trying to get my license reinstated, because no one would hire me...yet, being a nurse is what my heart longs to do!
