This happened over a year ago. I was working for a small private practice IV infusion. I would basically go around inserting ivs. I would fo upwards of 22iv in one shift, I was the only nurse onsite. One particular pt I was inserting an IV in and I was very focused as I usually am. The pt said something along the lines, "I don't think that one will work" At no point did she simply say "Stop," because if she had I would have stopped. It was a good line and I finished the insertion. Once she saw that I had finished, she got agitated and started yelling she wanted the IV out. I removed the IV as she asked and she stormed out the room. I told the Dr what had happened and they even called the pt to follow up. The pt had told them I inserted an IV without her consent. Anyways when I came back the next day, they took a full report again, I worked the whole shift and nothing was said. The next day I get a letter in the mail saying that I was let go, on top of that the Dr was accusing me of unprofessional behavior, etc and a whole slew of other things. I was completely in shock and disbelief. I have never been let go or otherwise accused. I am a very gentle and kind person by nature and don't think I would ever make a person feel forced. I view this whole situation as one big misunderstanding. I didn't do or say anything after, I had them send my belongings to my home and that was it. What are your thoughts on this?? It still left me confused to this day

When those in charge receive a complaint, something needs to be done in order to rectify the situation, and sometimes, we are thrown under the bus.
Ideally, the person waging the complaint is given empathy, understanding, insurance that the situation will be dealt with and will not happen again. In this instance, an investigation needed to take place and acted upon accordingly.
However, this logically ideal process did not take place, for whatever reason. Perhaps those in control had no idea of the problem-solving process, or perhaps the path of least resistance was taken without concern of those involved being the traumatized scapegoat.
It's sad, it's unfair, but it happens. We don't have to like it, but we need to accept that unscrupulous human behavior happens.
My empathy goes out to you, Kitty.

Not confusing. High maintenance pt, likes to dictate care. When that was unnecessary because your plan worked just fine she lashed out and told lies about you. Your employer is a jerkface. The end.
Hope you are doing well now! ??
Davey Do,
thanks for your insightful comment. Really helps to see it from someone else's perspective. Your right I don't think the right processes were followed at all. But at the end of the day, things worked out, I found a better job :)

You are so very welcome, Kitty!
When responding to such difficult situations with online members, I make a conscious attempt to keep myself out of it and focus on the dynamics. However, due to our similarities, I will mention the fact that our results were the same: On two occasions, I was unfairly terminated from a position and found better one.
Thank you for the support, the status report, and the best to you!
