This happened over a year ago. I was working for a small private practice IV infusion. I would basically go around inserting ivs. I would fo upwards of 22iv in one shift, I was the only nurse onsite. One particular pt I was inserting an IV in and I was very focused as I usually am. The pt said something along the lines, "I don't think that one will work" At no point did she simply say "Stop," because if she had I would have stopped. It was a good line and I finished the insertion. Once she saw that I had finished, she got agitated and started yelling she wanted the IV out. I removed the IV as she asked and she stormed out the room. I told the Dr what had happened and they even called the pt to follow up. The pt had told them I inserted an IV without her consent. Anyways when I came back the next day, they took a full report again, I worked the whole shift and nothing was said. The next day I get a letter in the mail saying that I was let go, on top of that the Dr was accusing me of unprofessional behavior, etc and a whole slew of other things. I was completely in shock and disbelief. I have never been let go or otherwise accused. I am a very gentle and kind person by nature and don't think I would ever make a person feel forced. I view this whole situation as one big misunderstanding. I didn't do or say anything after, I had them send my belongings to my home and that was it. What are your thoughts on this?? It still left me confused to this day
