What do you think about Mount Sinai Beth Phillips for ABSN?

Published

Hello Everyone!

I need your input.

I'm currently taking nursing pre-requisites at Queensborough Community College in NY, and am looking into the Mount Sinai Beth Phillips School of Nursing's Accelerated BSN program. (I have a BS in Graphic Design.)

My question is: Has anyone here on allnurses graduated from this program? I know it's very new, and I would like to hear what everyone has to say about their experience there. Tell me about how intense it was, how the 15 months is broken up, and whatever else you think I should know.

I am attracted to finishing my BSN in 15 months as opposed to taking two years at Queensborough for an ADN, but I'm also worried about the pricetag. Not as steep as NYU's Accelerated program, but still pretty up there compared to public college. Your input will help me decide if it's worth it.

Plan B might be finishing at Queensborough with an ADN, by some miracle landing a nursing job with only an Associate's, working for a couple of years, and then applying to one of Stony Brook's MSN programs (which you can apply to with just an ADN as long as you have a BS/BA in some other field, but might be tougher to get into because you need to hand in a Clinical Portfolio with your application).

***Some background on what I've been able to handle in the past: I have all A's and one B for my pre-requisites thus far, and a 3.6 gpa. At one point in my graphic design career, I took 21 credits in one semester, and did fine in all except one. I feel that because of this experience, I can probably handle a heavy load- but more like 18 credits, and not 21. All the while having one, and later two small children at home. Still nervous about what I can or can't handle in nursing school. Please advise. Thanks so much!!

Hello I was wondering if anyone who is currently in the program can answer some of my questions. I got accepted for fall 2020 and need help deciding. Thank you!

Hi Everyone! I was wondering if anyone who got into PSON ABSN program used Portage for prerequisites? I am using them for most of mine due to working full time and the current covid situation. PSON told me that they accept Portage was wondering if anyone on this thread has used them for most of their prerequisites?

Oh yes they do, I had a couple of them from portage and I was accepted for the Fall. When you do apply via nursing cas, make sure you send all your transcripts to [email protected] that way they'll know which applications are completed. That's what I was told by Maria but she no longer works there . Good luck!

Hi Amy - thanks so much for the tip! If you don't mind me asking did you take any of the lab prerequisites through Portage (example A&P, Microbio etc)?

I took AP 1 with portage, micro and nutrition

The labs were exhausting from what I remember LOL, tons of muscles to remember , the labs itself took so much time , but what I did was record the labs and watched them over and over again so I can write down which muscles to remember and studied them on my way to work etc etc

Haha! That’s a good tip. I am currently taking chem with lab through portage and it’s been alright but getting harder. I’m happy to hear others have used portage and it’s worked out! Thanks ?

Hey everyone, not sure if anyone still checks this but its worth a shot. I'm planning to apply to the ABSN program here but I cant seem to find what tuition is like. Can anyone give an estimate on how much the ABSN program is?
