Does joining the student nursing association for my college increase my chances of employment? Will it benefit me in the long run? I have volunteered 60+ hours in the Emergency Department at a local hospital. I will be starting a patient safety aide position soon. I have worked as a pharmacy clerk and in customer service at CVS. But these were short term jobs. Does getting an externship at the hospital I work at increase my chances as well? What do you believe will be the most important thing potential employers look for?

I believe all of these things would look wonderful on a resume. Obtaining an extern position at the hospital you would like to work at would be a great way to get your foot in the door and start networking; same with volunteering.
Again, good luck on your nursing school journey and kudos to you for thinking ahead.

The comment that was made to me in my interview was they were looking for ties to the community. The facility I am working at doesn't want to give a new nurse their first year experience and then they move on. They said it is expensive to train a new nurse.
Thanks. I know what I do now will make a difference towards the end.
That's what I'm afraid of Rob.
