What does it take to be HH nurse?

Published

I am struck by the vast difference of opinion when it comes to job satisfaction within home health. I am reading these posts and people seem to either really love it ("best job ever!") or absolutely hate it ("I have no life!"). What makes the difference? Is it the company? Organizational skills? Personality?

What does it take to succeed and LOVE home health?

Everything you just listed.

I work for the best people, in the safest prettiest area, great weather, I make good money in a 8-9 hr a day Mon-Fri and I still have seen people miserable and stressed out, or always struggling to meet time and quality expectations.

I also work with people who are/have worked into their 70's Vibrant healthy people.

Your posts always make me think I might look into HH one day. You seem like you really do enjoy your job.

It takes a good nurse with awesome critical thinking ability, including the ability to think outside the box. You have to be organized, be able to multi task and take things in stride. I think these are the most important things.

I love home health as it gives me what I always wanted, one on one time with my clients. In order to get it done fast and efficiently, you really do need to be able to multi task and not be timid. everything is on you, so you have to have confidence in your skills. I Love it cause it gives me the ability to use my skills well. We do everything... wound cares, lab draws, caths, iv's and iv therapy. You MUST have the confidence in yourself and your skill set.

and yes, it also has a great deal to do with your personality. are you one who can work independently and do the follow through without someone telling you what to do next? If you have good organizational skills, the job is much easier. You have to be able to triage clients, and work at a high rate of excellence.
