What to do?

Hi all!

I'm in quite the predicament right now. I'm about to start my 4th year for a BA in Psychology but I still have 4 semesters left (although it feels like 40!). I'm not very interested in a career in psychology so I'm trying to figure out the best way to go about getting a BSN. My stats right now just aren't good enough to get into a decent nursing program right now so I want to retake some core classes before I apply.

My current stats:

GPA: 3.43

Physiology: C+

Anatomy: B-

Statistics: B

My grades were not my best work because I was in and out of court/counseling after I was assaulted my first year in college but all of the residual effects of that are resolved so I'm confident I can bring those grades up. Should I go ahead and finish my BA and apply for a 2nd degree BSN program?

Hi!

Check and see if the nursing programs you are thinking of applying to will allow retakes of core classes. Sometimes you will lose points if you retake them to get a higher grade, if you didn't fail, etc. So make sure you research! Also, I'd recommend just setting up an interview with your prospective schools, talk to them, make sure they know who you are. This might make the difference or balance out your gpa. (Even though it's pretty good overall!)

I would probably finish my Bachelor's, since you're so close to the end. Accelerated BSN is always an option. Again, research on the program is really imperative!

What does the 2nd degree bsn program require?

For example Seton hall university requires healthcare statistics among other classes that would probably be better to take as an undergrad.

I've looked into the programs in my state (North Carolina) and they all have similar requirements +/- a few courses. I know this question has been asked a lot, but do programs care what one's undergrad degree is in? I'm just trying to avoid wasting time and money as much as possible!
